Whenever I curl my hair it always drops out straight away no matter what I do. Any advice? My hair is thick

Here for the responses... My ten year old is all about sock curls now but they drop out within about half an hour and she is always devastated!

Not much you can do. It depends on the hair. Me and my 15 curling appliances and every curl holding styling product is evidence

The wavy hair peeps use mousse and gel on sodden hair. But they are encouraging existing curls.

You could try doing sock curls with wet, gelled hair. It will be crunchy in the morning but you break the crunch up by scrunching.

actually that sounds a bit scary- maybe just do a little bit first!

I'm not sure you can, any more than I can keep mine straight! If you go for mousse and hard-core hair spray it might stay longer and will look nice in pictures but it will look weird and hard in real life.

I'd like to know this too.

I have what used to be quite curly, ringlety hair, but it only looked OK on wash days and would be a frizzy mess afterwards. Since menopause, it's been the frizzy mess almost all the time.

So I've ended up straightening it or blow drying it straight or using a hot brush. And when I do that, it goes straight and ratty at the ends. It's still really thick, but the ends just all stand out in separate little clumps. I try curling with various appliances and they either don't hold at all, or they hold for a couple of hours and then go back to ratty.

It seems so strange that for someone with naturally curly hair, I can't get a curl to hold once it's been straightened or blow dried.

No matter what I do I doomed to thick ratty frizz it seems.

So I'll be following for any good product suggestions

My hair is poker straight and I use GHDs to curl daily and my curls stay in unless I'm outside in damp weather. I use mousse on damp hair and completely blow dry my hair. If there's any residual dampness the curl won't hold. I then spray each section of hair with Mark Hill Style Addict Curl Spray before I use the straighteners then only brush out once my curls have completely cooled. I then finish with a little John Frieda Frizz Ease moisture barrier hairspray. My hair is probably more of a wave though than curls.

Are you curling it straight after washing? My hair is useless when I do that. The curls always fall out!

Only thing that has helped me is wash my hair the night before and in the morning then curl it. Add a good amount of hair spray and don’t brush the curls out for an hour or so…
