Arizona Birkenstocks - sizing, help!!

I have ordered and received some slim-fit size 5 (38) Arizona Birkenstocks. They're the same size as a pair of Birkenstocks I had ten years ago, before two pregnancies, but I have worn them around the house and they look a bit small, and they're rubbing. I imagine in the summer heat they'd be even tighter.

I don't know whether my feet have become wider and therefore I need the regular fit, or if, by buying the next size up (5.5) but in slim fit, I will find the right fit. I'm confused! I can't go and try a load on, which would best, obviously. I live in a town that's quite limited, shopping-wise. Sending shoes back and forth in the post is expensive.

What are other people's experiences of Birkenstock sizing, before and after pregnancy perhaps?

I ordered some Arizonas a few weeks ago to replace an older pair - exactly the same size (38 narrow) as all my other Birkies but I had to send them back, they were visibly smaller. So it might not be a post-pregnancy thing for you.

I have always found the Birkenstock Arizonas to come up quite large (in the regular fit) and size down one size. That being said, whilst pregnant I definitely notice a more snug fit, which I would imagine would be even worse on the narrow ones. I would almost certainly recommend the regular fit during pregnancy as the issue is likely to be width related rather than the foot growing longer.
