Help me find a raincoat?

NotARealWookiie · 21/02/2024 16:01

I need a raincoat that fulfils the following criteria;

Must be waterproof.
Must be long, ideally full length or knee length.
Must be a coat not a dry robe/similar.

Must not be puffer style.

I have been hunting for ages and cannot find anything. Not looking for anything expensive, would love a bargain, bonus points for Vinted suggestions in a size 14-16!

I want to just be able to throw it on for errands/school run over the top of whatever I’m wearing.

Help me please mumsnetters!

Try FatFace

I have the Rain Rebel jacket from Lululemon and it's great. It's not at all plasticy or rubbery rain coat, it feels like cloth but keeps me dry. The web site shows just white or black, but sometimes stores will have different colours. Mine is a nice spring green from last year.

I also have an insulated Helly Hansen rain coat for winter which is just as nice quality. They have lots of selection, I especially like their waterproof trench for this year since trenches are on trend.

Try Seasalt. On my third in about 8 years; all waterproof with loads of pockets and hood

Stutterheim or Rains worth looking at!

Travellingislife · 22/02/2024 02:12

Didrikson’s coats are waterproof and they look nice. Can be expensive but sometimes you’ll find a bargain on Vinted.

Jennywren2000 · 22/02/2024 03:46

Uniqlo blocktech

CTW23 · 22/02/2024 08:31

I LOVE my Stutterheim one!

mrskimsneakattack · 22/02/2024 08:34

I saw a lady wearing a really nice pinky-red Barbour one the other week. Unfortunately the exact one is sold out but I was surprised they had a few nice ones and not as £££ as I would have thought.

ChishiyaBat · 22/02/2024 11:03

I love my rain sisters raven coat. I wore it to walk the 2miles home from work in a storm a few weeks ago&I was as dry as a bone when I got home. It also dries really quickly too.

RavenT · 22/02/2024 11:30

Uniqlo blocktech are not waterproof. Lovely coats (I've got one), but not good in rain.

Really nice but just not long enough, I’m sick of wet legs on the school run, it’s long enough to get properly drenched!

I LOVE these but can’t quite afford one and my Vinted hunting hasn’t been fruitful unfortunately.

This is a bargain and a possible option actually - I might order one. It fits the bill but I’m not convinced it’s very “me” if that makes sense.

@CTW23 @ChilliPB @TheMixedGirl ohhhh I’d not heard of Stutterheim and these are perfect! Thank you, exactly what I’m looking for but I’m going to need to try and find a sale or Vinted one due to maternity leave budget!

Are they properly properly waterproof?

Protected Species. Truly perfect rainwear.

ConstantastheNorthernStar · 22/02/2024 17:22

@NotARealWookiie Stutterheim are definitely completely impermeable. They are made of rubbery material; the rain just slides off.

Wizzadorra70 · 22/02/2024 17:26

Practical = Seasalt, try their Ebay official outlet, I got one for £35 recently.

Nicer = Didriksons, I've got a lovely one in Navy that is knee length and smart enough to wear with my work clothes as well as dog walking. Or Barbour/Helly Hansen.

Splurge = Rain Sisters. I am coveting a black one with red lining. Truly gorgeous.

Lucia574 · 22/02/2024 17:29

I have the Sweaty Betty Stride parka and it is completely waterproof. Mine is just above the knee but dips lower at back. They did do a full length version too.

Mairzydotes · 22/02/2024 17:43

I've got a knee length Regatta coat that's waterproof. It was fairly inexpensive too.

NotARealWookiie · 22/02/2024 18:22

Thank you everyone…I’ve just had a serious incident on the Stutterheim website and ordered one of their sale raincoats. Its over budget but exactly what I’ve been looking for so if it fits well it’ll be worth a little dip into my savings.

Thank you so much everyone, I’ve enjoyed discovering several brands I’ve never heard of due to all of your recommendations!
