Help me choose a handbag

Hi everyone,
I want to buy myself a nice handbag. I've never had one before (a nice one!) but I want to get something good quality that will last. I prefer brown to black and like simple designs that I can wear on my shoulder. I could spend up to 600 pounds. The bags in the pictures from Mulberry are the kind of thing I like.

It's lovely and comfy but can't get a lot in it.

I would buy in oak tho if I had the money - it's such a neat bag and won't date (I hope) though I think it's £650 now??

Are you happy with having a small bag?

If you want a larger one have a look at pre owned ones in excellent condition.

Hi OP, I have both of those bags. The Amberley fits a bit more in but neither are made for carrying lots. It depends what you're going to use it for.

@helpyhelperton yes, you're right it's 650. Would you say it's worth it? I also hope it won't date, I'm trying to avoid anything too fashionable for that reason.
@Porfirio I really like how the small ones look, but maybe I need to look at some larger ones.
@Floofydawg would it do for keys, phone, purse and maybe a water bottle? Do you prefer either one of the two?

I have the oak Amberley (second one) and love it! Goes with everything!

fits card holder phone kindle and small makeup bag; actually more than you’d think (not sure re water bottle- doubt it tho)

OP I'd go into mulberry if I were you and take a look at the sizes. Personally I use mine for keys, cardholder, small hairbrush, phone, hand cream, lipstick. Wouldn't fit a water bottle. I have bigger bags for work when I need to carry more. I love both of these and use them lots.

The first one you linked is about the size of a small makeup bag / about the width of a large iPhone on as tall as a small diary.

You can fit a phone, keys, lipstick and brush - at a push, but no purse - there's a credit card slip at the back and 2 inside.

You'd only really wear it as a cross body

I don't think there's a mulberry that fits your bill and your bills 💸 unless you got preloved and got a small Bayswater (the structured
Version, not the new one that is out now nor the zipped version)

I've been looking at Demellier - they look so nice and well made and have bigger options

I was looking for a crossbody tan handbag (up to about £500) and had Demellier, Polene and Strathberry in mind. I've ended up ordering this from strathberry.

I came to suggest all 3 of these brands if you wanted to look at something other mulberry. I’d say Polene is having a bit of a moment and I’m seeing it everywhere.

Thanks for all your suggestions everyone, I'm going to rethink the size, I've always prioritised practicality but I wanted to get something pretty this time. I've also never spent more than £50/60 on a bag so it's all a bit daunting. Thank again :)

I have oxblood Amberley in this size.
Love it. And it fits a surprising amount.

Similar bags for size and functionality are

Aspinal small lottie but this holds slightl less than the Amberley.

For that price point you could also get a leather ysl tote. I have this in black and oxblood. I quite like them but i wouldnt put a laptop etc in them and they are no where near as durable as a LV Neverfull (this is not in your price range new)

Careful with polene - ive heard more than once manufacturing quality is down recently.
I also dont love strathberry... id be more inclined to get coach or la furla or cocinelle you could prob get bags (tote and shoulder) from there.
