Arty daytime awards ceremony, argh!

Hello,

In true Billy Elliot style I’m having a panic travelling down to the big stylish city to receive an arts based award soon, like a total fish out of water. I need to feel trendy and confident rather than the fat 38 year old mum of several chickens that I am.

Im desperately trying to find an ‘edgy’ dress to wear and don’t know where to look?!

I have a thick waist and big boobs. I have good legs but can’t wear heels.

I saw this style on Wolf and Badger, does this look similar to any other brands? My budget is roughly £200 thanks so much for any help!!

Chicken lady x

Can't imagine that neckline being v flattering on big boobs

What colours look great on you?

Garlicnaan · 19/02/2024 14:48

Also what size are you? Some brands only go up to 16/18 x

Uncooperativefingers · 19/02/2024 14:51

The neckline reminds me a bit of a mint velvet dress I bought last summer. I have large boobs compared to my frame and it flatters me, so worth a look

I hate my boobs so I’m always hiding them! I’m very pale ash blonde so jewel tones, blue, black etc x

I like a bit of Rundholz for this kind of thing. Often availave on ebay.

Very wearable
Add some statement jewellery

Blue?

Thank you I’ve never heard of them!

Marking as have something similar in April. I like the Rundholz dresses, but I have decided to not go edgy or wear black, and instead maybe do a nod to my heritage (Asian) by wearing a blue or magenta lightly embroidered silk kurta and palazzos.. I guess everyone will be in black, and I want to look a little different.

That Jigsaw dress is lovely too.

Too much? Colour and fabric, not ££. Definitely worth the money.

But I don’t think you need to try to look ‘edgy’. You’ve won an award - so you clearly are a forward thinker already.

That means a lot, thank you x

Could you pull off white? There’s a nice Rundholz jacket on ebay.

Though I don’t know how the sizes measure up.

I like the Batsheva dress. If it were me I'd give serious thought to something from the Batsheva Laura Ashley range.

The first inclination for this sort of challenge is to go to Cos or Raey, who pretty much make uniforms for this type of event, so Batsheva is less predictable.

Or I'd wear this, which I own.

The Georgie wrap dress is an extremely flattering easy to wear wrap dress, with a slightly cropped sleeve. The dress is over sized / related fit. in Organic Cotton. The print is a series of tropical bird, flower and palm paintings. 100% Organic Cotton....

You’re too late, @Onthedoubleline! Sad

I mean, Raey still exists and you can buy new collections, and the Matches outlet still has stuff from last year - but Matches has been sold to Frasers. The website now looks vomitous and I have no hope that Raey can continue to be what it was.

The sale sees owner Apax Partners take a heavy loss on the British e-tailer amid a broader meltdown in the luxury e-commerce space.
