Holiday clothes 2024

Where are you buying yours?
I've started to keep an eye out as I have a special holiday to the Carribean coming up in May.
I'd like to upgrade my current mish mash of holiday clothes. (Mostly high street, silkfred, vinted, supermarkets, purchased on holiday.)- happy enough with high street/supermarket brands, doesn't need to be fancy brands- just want to look nice and feel nice!
I'm 5ft 6, size 12 and about to turn 40! (How did that happen?) I'm dieting like a lunatic so hoping to be feeling in reasonable shape by May.
I'm on the lookout for dresses, bikinis and a nice white linen shirt. Budget is £100 per item or thereabouts.
I'd like to feel nice in the evening but am sure it'll be quite casual. Maxi skirts, jumpsuits and a white dress for the white party they have at our resort!
Any suggestions where I should be shopping? Seen anything nice lately?

It feels a bit early doesnt it but I know if I turn my back then the Summer clothes will be in and bought and I'll have missed the ones I want .

I'm looking for simple pull-on skater style dresses for summer . Either with a short sleeve or sleeveless .
I have a few that get dragged out every year and starting to look a bit tatty .

I bought a White Stuff black with patterns simple skater style dress.

Everything I saw yesterday (in RL shops) was still hanging on grimly to teirs and flounces <argh> which is why I haven't bought much in the past couple of years .
I'm also searching for clothes for Formal Nights and evenings for a cruise.

Just had a week in the sun kitted out via Vinted and really, really happy with what I took. Used the material, brand, condition and colour filters and sorted by new and snapped up what I wanted when I saw it. Planned out what I wanted to get and stuck to that for capsule/mix and match items. I've read on here that some people struggle to get decent items on Vinted but I think I've been very fortunate as have had some absolute bargains of really good quality items - I think the trick is to order by newest item once you've set all your filters.

All items were under £20 (most considerably under) and either brand new or in very good condition. Most used - two cotton loose maxi dresses from H&M (leopard print and a black one) and a beautiful Masai maxi that I've worn now on a winter and summer break (with Uniqlo thermals in the winter!). Dressed up with chunky silver jewellery for the evening and wide, soft leather belt for a more fitted look. M&S beachwear range black light cotton jumpsuit that looked really good dressed up in the evening (for a tenner on Vinted!).

Seafolly beach cover ups - fiver each, in coral and black. Land's End swimsuits. Solbari wide brimmed sun hat. Couple of large linen scarves for breeze/cover up. Anthropologie kimono with coral bright coral pattern. Pair of black leggings and a looser pair of cotton black trousers. Couple of plain white and black cotton vest tops. I went for neutrals of black and white with a few leopard print and coral items, coral nails, lips, accessories, beach bag, already had super comfy plain black Croc flip flops and Tevas so could mix it all up. I'm lucky enough to be off again for Easter so I'll take all of these items again as it worked really well for me and hopefully we'll have some kind of summer in the UK this year to make use of them!

Hope you have a lovely holiday and fun planning your wardrobe!

There's a thread at the moment on buying the pefect linen shirt so loads of ideas on there .

I've never tried Vinted but I bought some really nice even wear last year from eBay . Some BNWT , BNW/OT
Couple of pre-owned but only worn once or twice .

I did think Oh I can look in M&S when they have their Christmas Party Wear in but I never got round to it .
These often appear as maybe people buy things and don't wear them or an unwanted gift . ? Whatever reason they are a good searching ground .

It does feel early but I make the same mistake every year and end up with whats left and never feel quite happy with what I have.
I saw a lovely wide trouser co-ord on ax paris I thought would be good for evening wear. I'm going into town tomorrow so I will have a look about the shops.
When is your cruise and where are you going? I'd personally go second hand for formal wear, especially if you have time to search.

Wow that was a good vinted haul!
I've had some good bargains on vinted but bought a lot of crap too. I think I've gotten better at it though and now only buy brands I'm familiar with that I know will work for me. I've been selling a few bits too so have £120 in my vinted wallet to spend so will be keeping an eye out over the next few months!
I did just purchase a lovely swim suit cover up on there for a tenner! I'm unnaturally pleased with it as it has a parrot on it and i think it's so fitting for where we are going!
Where are you off to at easter?

For your evening cruise wear are you looking to go fully bling?
I go on a lot of cruises and find real bargains on eBay. I assume people buy these dresses for big events wear them once then sell on.
Last cruise I got a brand new Adrianna Papell dress with £250 price tag for £20.

Well I went at the weekend for holiday clothes as it's imminent but the location is chilly so not appropriate for this thread Grin

mitogoshi · 19/02/2024 13:19

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

For cruise formal nights it really depends on the line - they really aren't as dress up as yesteryear. Cunard had a couple of very posh nights but other lines seem to be more casual.

Rina66 · 19/02/2024 13:33

I take a selection of different items of clothing, one for each day, so a jumpsuit, a maxi dress, a midi dress, a shorts co-ord, wide leg crop trousers, maxi skirt and a hi lo dress - I get bored if I wear the same style every day!

Rina66 · 19/02/2024 13:37

I also tend to wear clothes I wouldn't wear here!

I've got a decent number from last year and previous years, so won't be buying much. I bought recently a bright vertical stripe collared top from Etsy - very bright, a mix of orange and yellow! Perhaps it's more wearing me than I am wearing it. I do feel the attention is drawn more to the top than to my face, whereas I feel some of my other tops highlight my face more. I wish it were a little longer (it's 23 inches, so not cropped, but that's just borderline sufficiently long for me). Fun! I'll have to put in another button or secret snap fastener though, because from the side it gapes a little open right on the bust.

Otherwise, I think I might get another linen sleeveless top on Etsy. I've got one in a light teal and I bought another one in green last year and wore it last summer, but I wanted to narrow it slightly on the shoulders and widen out the arm scythe (it was pulling a bit with my arms going forward) - and the alterations place I took it to wrecked it.

I'm approaching 40 and also thinking towards the summer so will look up some of the ideas. Also planning on getting fitter by then. I always find Zara good for shirts and tshirts. Hush is nice but I sometimes find it expensive for the quality.
