Sweaty Betty

I have been a fan for Sweaty Betty since the beginning! I love their leggings. Love their hoodies and sweatshirts. Wear them at the weekend with jeans.

What the hell is going on with them lately?

They are discontinuing many "classics" and the material they use on lots of stuff is thin and shiny. Gross.

And my biggest issue of late, everything is cropped. Which is great if you've got a flat tummy and no kids or you are under the age of 25.

Even the stuff that is normal length, hits at a very unflattering length making your torso appear round and short. If it looks crap on the model, it won't look good on me. Lots of women feel self conscious of their tummy. Even at my slimmest, after kids, there was still a little pouch there.

Don't they realise that most people that can afford 80-100 quid per garment are NOT little slim 19 year olds?!

I'm disappointed with their quality now. I've found all the newer power styles are getting holes in the calf seams. I only ever bought their leggings and shorts but they're now v disappointing

stillavid · 16/02/2024 12:55

I think they lost their way a couple of years ago - it is rather like per Una nowadays!

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 16/02/2024 12:57

I gave up shopping with them some time ago and instead now bulk buy Lululemon and /or ALO whenever I’m in the States

I pulled a 5 ish year old pair of Power cropped leggings out yesterday and felt nostalgic for how great they felt, despite years of wash and wear. My two newer pairs are crap, fabric gone rough on the bum on one, and the back pocket zip broke on the other after about 6 months. I won't buy anymore, M&S Good Move are a third of the price and quality the same.
I have recently bought a long sleeved running top though from them, which I love, it is long and a bit looser which is perfect for my less than perfect body. So many other workout tops are skin tight which is so unflattering when you have both belly and boobs.

I really wanted to buy a sweatshirt (had a money off code) but either they were that boxy cropped shape or awful colours.

I agree. You can still get a lot on second hand selling sites (there’s a good one on Facebook) but I don’t tend to buy new anymore from there. The athlete vests have changed again and just aren’t as good anymore, they feel much cheaper. Also the quality of the leggings isn’t as good anymore either. Such a shame as I’ve been a customer since the mid 00s and rarely buy from them now - Lululemon are far superior (but also more expensive!)

Tiddlywinkly · 16/02/2024 17:31

Agree, their has gone way down.

They discontinued my favourite non-cycling shorts about 2 years ago and I ended up with Lululemon ones that I actually prefer now. Won't be going back.

Tiddlywinkly · 16/02/2024 17:32

Just thought, didn't a company buy them out a year or two? Might be the reason for the decline.

biedrona · 16/02/2024 17:38

Many years ago I bought a pair of leggins from SB, served me well. Now it's all thick nylon...it's just not the same.
I go for varley or lululemon on vinted

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/02/2024 17:53

Oh no what a shame. I'm glad I read this though as I have two pairs of SB leggings still going strong after 5 years but I've lost quite a bit of weight so was thinking of getting some more.

Kangarude · 16/02/2024 17:58

I have more pairs than I should and agreed that the quality has gone down, I ordered a couple of pairs last year, in my usual size, and I could hardly get them over my ankles. Both pairs were returned.
As a PP said, M&S Good move are great quality and only £29.50

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/02/2024 18:02

There's a place near me that sells SB end of line/season leggings for £7 per pair. I'm always popping in to check if they've got anything in my size (they usually only have S or XS which im sadly not) but maybe I won't bother any more.

Why when you're in the states?

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 16/02/2024 18:09

Because I don’t live in London and like to look at the stuff first and I also think that I’m getting a cheaper price / better deal if I buy in America! Probably not anymore but it’s a habit. lulu also have much wider stock in their shops over there.

ElleWoods15 · 16/02/2024 18:15

It’s a pity because I’ve always preferred the fit in SB over LL.

I am still buying leggings there- albeit only in the sale! - and still finding quality of those ok.

But I agree they are discontinuing lots of classic lines which is annoying, and so many new tops are cropped (oh to have a tummy that could wear cropped tops these days….). Why oh why would they scrap the Double Time top?! The replacement they have for it is rubbish.

If anyone has found a good alternative to the Double Time top do let me know!!!

Have seen a brand called gym plus coffee but know nothing about them.

Have seen a brand called gym plus coffee but know nothing about them.

It's Gym + Coffee (the 'plus' is just for the website purposes).

Nice hoodies / sweatshirts but over priced in general. I have some of their shorts & I do like them as good 'under shorts' lining but they do shrink over time.

Fortyin24 · 21/02/2024 22:44

Has anyone tried the Danish brand Athlecia? Heard good things
