my friend is thinking of opening a children's
shop nearby. nothing definite yet, she's just looking into it at the moment, but i hope to god she does. hopefully i'll get a friend's discount too

Basically I thought I'd ask a few questions on here so she knows what people are after.

What colours do you absolutely love/hate? For me i love red, yellow, orange, purple, turquoise, black, white. Hate blue, green, khaki, brown, beige, pink, grey. think they are dulltastic.

What sort of pictures/patterns do you hate/love? diggers, cars, trains, planes, helicopters, pirates, monsters, skeletons, camouflage, grafitti, cutesy animals, butterflies, hearts, flowers, glitter. i don't mind dinosaurs, bugs, lions, spacechips, aliens, astronauts, rockets etc though.

Any materials that you hate? - denim on littlies (under 12 months), nylon, fleece.

Any other comments? Love handknitted items and cord. Hate trackie bottoms, football shirts, trainers (unless being used to play sport) and anything with a collar for toddlers (shirts, polo shirts etc)

I have to disagree with the tracksuit bottoms thing...I actively search for little stretchy jersey trousies for my boys, because they are so comfy. No flat, 3 inch deep-type elasticated waists, please - only the narrower type of band, anything else restricts getting on and off too much. And not cords or denim either - too heavy and doesn't move easily unless your child is super skinny!

I also like:

T shirts that are made so they don't go short and wide when you wash them!! (off the shoulder, belly button showing look is so not good)

Simple long or short sleeve t shirts are good. Stripes are good.

Easy, not too chunky, machine washable jumpers for boys.

Socks that stay on.

Colours: NOT baby blue, yeurgh, and not pale sickly beige please. dark blue and brown are good, red is Ok, green is Ok.

No logos please, as in stuck on/sewn on bits with that hard white interfacing on the back. I mean how uncomfy is that! Especially on small babies.

And no stupid slogans either

I thank you

I hate the fact that all boy's clothes have the same theme in every shop I go to-at the moment it's Dr Who,Spiderman,Pirates,Scaters and Football.

Little girl's shoes with heels on-even wellies!?I don't think a 3 year old-especially one like mine that's always falling over anyway-needs heels!

I would love to see boy's t-shirts with cars, tractors, trains for boys older than 5-my son loves them.

The best thing of all would be t-shirts with buses on them-my son LOVES buses, especially routemasters but I can't find any tops with buses on for a 7 yr old!

flight - i find this sort of thing very comfy for ds. do you find it easy to avoid jeans/cords with your boys? i try to but if i don't give in occasionally they'd end up going around half nekkid.

well it's nice and looks comfy, but I prefer the stretchy trousers made from jersey, because they are almost like wearing a mattress! Extra layer of comfort and protection (sounds like a tena lady ad but it's true!) The thin cotton ones would have a hole in the knee very fast with my boys.

I do find it hard to get enough jersey keks for them. But I had a huge stash after Ds1 grew out of his, he wore them all the time as he was in cloth nappies and very fat, and seriously nothing lese would go over the naps/round his waist (if you could call it a waist!) so me and my mum hunted down any jersey trousers in the whole town and bought them all, for years. Nowadays he's slimmed down and can wear almost anything, he's nearly 5, so trousers wear out before they grow out - but we have lots of trackies for Ds2 to have as hand me downs.

Yes, almost impossible sometimes to buy comfy trousers. We got them from La Redoute and Vertbaudet quite often but the sizing is hard to figure.

HTH!

nappyaddict · 21/04/2008 07:52

what sort of other things does your ds1 wear? i need inspiration! went round our shopping centre the other day and couldn't hardly find anything suitable. got loads of tshirts but nothing to go with them.

I love these (only go up to 2 years I think, but they're massive and would easily fit most 3-year-olds): www.vikingkids.co.uk/moonkids/ribtrousers.htm

They have these as well that look great, and I think they go up to 6 years: www.vikingkids.co.uk/moonkids/terry-trousers.htm

These are supposed to be good, and come in older kid's sizes too.

Agree with a lot of what other people have said, but one of my personal bugbears is general lack of roominess, eg narrow sleeves, especially on tops meant to go over other stuff, as well as narrow neck openings. My DD is nearly 4 and still makes a fuss about stuff going over her head. Ok, she's a PITA sensitive person, but I'm sure she's not the only one.

My2Monkeys · 21/04/2008 13:40

Didn't realise the links wouldn't show up, duh! I meant these and these

MinkyBorage · 21/04/2008 13:48

I'm talking girls clothes here, no idea about boys clothes:

What colours do you absolutely love/hate? Hate pale sugary colours. Hate silver, sparkles, shiny stuff

What sort of pictures/patterns do you hate/love? Hate most girls motifs and pictures, hate words on clothes, hate naff embroideries, prints, sparkles, beads etc etc Hate all of the above especially on denim

Any materials that you hate? - anything synthetic

Any other comments? Love handknitted items and cord. love denim, but HATE stupid whiskering and bleaching, and treatments on denim, naff naff naff. Love dark colour for girls.
Hate trackie bottoms, football shirts, trainers
Favourite brand which I can't afford is caramel, but think hennes is good, although have to hunt. P.O.P. is fantastic, but think it's only at Brent Cross and House of Fraser.

ChippyMinton · 21/04/2008 13:58

For boys - love bright tops (orange, lime, yellow, green). Hate slogans, will tolerate patterns & pictures. Like plain jeans, cords and rugby shirts. Sportswear only for playing sport, and football shirt for watching the match.

For girls - patterned and stripey tights. Cord skirts, denim pinafores. Embroidery, fancy buttons, little details like ruffles or binding. Colours, preferably bright/ clashing.

Machine washable, hard wearing, colour-fast, non-iron.

bouncingblueberries · 22/04/2008 09:06

This is the kind of thing I love for my ds. Lots of stripes in bright colours and NICE motifs that are unisex. Have a lovely green t-shirt from there with a funky little snail on the front.
