my friend is thinking of opening a children's
shop nearby. nothing definite yet, she's just looking into it at the moment, but i hope to god she does. hopefully i'll get a friend's discount too

Basically I thought I'd ask a few questions on here so she knows what people are after.

What colours do you absolutely love/hate? For me i love red, yellow, orange, purple, turquoise, black, white. Hate blue, green, khaki, brown, beige, pink, grey. think they are dulltastic.

What sort of pictures/patterns do you hate/love? diggers, cars, trains, planes, helicopters, pirates, monsters, skeletons, camouflage, grafitti, cutesy animals, butterflies, hearts, flowers, glitter. i don't mind dinosaurs, bugs, lions, spacechips, aliens, astronauts, rockets etc though.

Any materials that you hate? - denim on littlies (under 12 months), nylon, fleece.

Any other comments? Love handknitted items and cord. Hate trackie bottoms, football shirts, trainers (unless being used to play sport) and anything with a collar for toddlers (shirts, polo shirts etc)

hate hate hate little girls clothes that are like teenager style with body concious cuts and logos . And clothes that look like they are going clubbing for partywear. And shit fabrics. And fake layered sweatshirts for boys with different sleeves so it looks as if there is a t-sirt underneath. And logos again.
So everything Next sells really.

BellaBear · 24/03/2008 10:08

I hate the way so many clothes for boys seem to assume boys are cheeky or naughty (I'm a little monkey/monster type slogans and pictures)

I suppose for girls it's prinecesses/fairies?

BoysOnToast · 24/03/2008 10:12

yes, agree bella - pls keep your typecasting of my childrens' burgeoning personalities to yourselves !
ok so mine are cheeky but still...

you know what i love? those scandinavian type clothes... will try to find links...

I really like american apparel's baby cltohes, someone on here got me on to them - very plain cut simple clothes in plain colours. Now I have started to actually dress DS in the morning (desperate attempt to differentiate night and day), the 'karate style trousers' are really comfy and useful, and nicely coloured.

DS is definitely not cheeky, being nine weeks old ... so so daft. I accept he may turn out that way though!

totally agree re knitwear

did you know, you can buy a linen suit and shirt set in next at the moment for a 0-3 month old? Bizarre.

nappyaddict · 24/03/2008 11:51

pruners do you not like red and orange then? lots of people on here have said they love it. i love yellow, turquoise and purple on ds but it is a right pain to get hold of

I don't absolutely hate any colour except turquoise (which btw Pumpkin Patch is full of this summer, for whoever was looking).
The use of different blues, none of which will go with anything else you have in blue is really irritating because everything for boys IS blue. Navy at least will go with lots of other colours.
Green suits all the boys I know (lovely on blonds and dark hair), yet you rarely see it in the shops.
Tank tops are gorgeous & handy and dress up a plain t-shirt/jeans outfit but not hand-wash.

DarthVader · 24/03/2008 18:14

I love red but it is hard to find.

serin · 24/03/2008 21:50

Love red, orange and blue,
Hate beige.

Love shirts and chinos for my lads (5 and 7),
Hate ironing them though.

Hate wool and synthetics (eczema).

They love football shirts...in nylon! so have to wear cotton tops underneath.

gigglewitch · 18/04/2008 23:37

Boys colours - love red, any shade of blue, navy, yellow, white, hate khaki and anything green or brown. orange can be good or bad depending how bright - tango'd is not a good look

pictures - cars, diggers, planes, trucks and stuff all good
not corny slogans, esp involving word "dude"

materials - don't like denim on little ones under 18mo/2yrs
love cotton / soft lined trousers
dc like fleecy jumpers (much more than i do...)
they like little waistcoats too but they are not too easy to find.

Girls - my little girl likes blue and red as well as pink and purple

why can't i find a little 2yo girl cotton blouse anywhere atm????? like funky little knitted tops, which go over long sleeved t-shirts or blouse/shirts [which of course we can't find]

like cotton knitwear on girls.

hotchocscot · 19/04/2008 00:16

loathe all the stuff for toddler boys that says i'm a little rascal/cheeky monkey/trouble/wee shitebag etc etc.

why can you only get cute T's for boys that say NICE things until they are about 6 months old, then everyone seems to assume they turn into horrors? grrrrr

also second the vote for more rails of clothes for boys. there are about 5 rows of toddler girls stuff in our local Tesco and 1 row for toddler boys!

love bright colours for boys too - my ds looks fab in red, green, purple, but its hard to find nice plain-ish stuff that isn't slogan'd to death.

nappyaddict · 19/04/2008 00:17

would any of you mind doing this little survey too?

nappyaddict · 19/04/2008 00:20

i know a lot of people don't like character stuff but would you buy pants, vests, socks, wellies or slippers with tv characters on?

OP posts:
Ceolas · 19/04/2008 00:23

HATE slogans of any description.

Must tumble dry.

Ceolas · 19/04/2008 00:24

TV characters don't offend me as much as slogans

We do have undersear/nightwear/socks.

harpomarx · 19/04/2008 00:25

WARM trousers for winter! have only ever found one pair with lining.

in fact warm clothes for girls in general.

nappyaddict · 19/04/2008 00:34

ceolas - you wouldn't be buying any of these then

GirlySquare · 19/04/2008 13:44

dd top half is always one age range larger than her bottom half, currently tops 4-5 trousers/leggings 3-4 so would love clothes that could mix and match and layer
Must tumble dry
Love adjustable waists

GirlySquare · 20/04/2008 10:35

Whoops! I forgot about why do clothing manufacturers ALWAYS assume that all children are out of nappies once they're over a certain height and don't allow room for the nappy.
