TV appearance outfit

I have name changed for this as I’ve not told anyone but I’m going to be on a TV quiz show and have no idea what to wear!

I'm a size 12 and 5’5” with quite big boobs so I avoid v necks tops

I have these instructions -

Please bring 5 complete outfits

• No logos or branding on clothes.
• No small polka dots.
• No stripes.
• No busy /detailed patterns.
• Some large patterns can work, such as large floral prints and large bold checks. Many
checks do not work, so please make sure you bring plain options too.
• No plain white tops (including shirts).
• No all black tops (this includes cardigans).
• No large bangles or necklaces (for sound purposes).
• Ladies, please bring a cami/vest to under any lightweight fabrics and if wearing fine
cotton or silk fabrics please wear smooth seamless underwear if possible!

It turns out everything I own or like breaks one of these rules - oh and I only have until Wednesday so might have to be in bricks and mortar high street shops…

Please help oh wise style and beauty board!

Oooh how exciting

What's you usually style? Where do you shops normally or what shops do you like? What shoes will you wear?

If I had to go right now I'd wear jeans, doc shoes, plain long sleeved t shirt and Aztec cardigan

Or

Hush red floral midi skirt and a plain t shirt or long sleeved top

If I had to buy something I'd buy a half button down shirt dress from M and S

I'd probably go to matalan and find something there tbh! We have very few shops locally.

I used to be a researcher in TV. Basically you need to avoid anything busy that has the potential to “strobe” (like polka dots), anything that will “make you disappear” (like black or white) and anything that might accidentally flash a nipple under the big studio lights.

Studios can be very hot because of the lighting but depending on where you are and the set:studio size ratio can also be very cold. That’s not much help other than - layers!

Five complete outfits?! Do you film lots of episodes? Very exciting

TheTripThatWasnt · 15/02/2024 17:50

Not helpful, but just came across this whilst watching The Chase. Guessing you're not going on that, as 1 of the contestants is wearing stripes and the other a 'busy' pattern!

A good starting point for idea gathering might be to watch pointless or a similar multi contestant game show so see what folk are wearing.
I agree with PP look in Matalan or Tesco or Uniqlo because it sounds like high fashion and fancy brands doesn't matter in this instance

Sounds like Pointless. Three appearances.

I do some TV/media stuff. I have a variety of the £25 M&S jumpers in a range of non-black colours which I tend to wear. Sometimes over a collared shirt but sometimes just over a t shirt..

Mairzydotes · 15/02/2024 21:49

A grey top?

I do some TV/media stuff too and agree with PP to watch some episodes of similar shows and see who you think look nice and get some inspiration there. You might get quite hot (lights + nerves) so blouse or shirt can be a good bet. I like blues, greens and reds but depends on your coloring. Larger checks can indeed work well. I like blouse + simple skirt or dress. But not dress if I'll wear a microphone because you will have cables running under the clothes and a little box clipped onto the back of your belt or top of trousers/skirt. But unlikely in your case. It's important you feel as comfortable as possible. Will you be filmed full figure or mainly waist up + closeups? Boobs and cleavage can look a bit amplified and distracting on camera so be aware of that, ie nothing low cut, and wear good supportive underwear. It's easy for boobs to look saggier than they are if you see what I mean. I would also avoid jewelry as it's rarely flattering on camera. Hope you have a great time!

Thank you all so much for advice - hadn’t thought about microphone so definitely going for trousers and top!

I think it’s only one episode (not Pointless) and they have said 5 to make sure we don’t clash with other contestants I think?

excited and nervous in equal measures - industrial strength deodorant is definitely required!!
