Jamongranary · 13/02/2024 09:56

I was going to invest in really good skincare products and heard great reviews about Dr Barbara sterm
serums and creams .

Before i buy it as it's quite pricey i was wondering whether anyone tried them and did they saw good results ? Or perhaps there are better skin care brands i can invest in ?

Thank you X

Not worth it in my opinion, husband bought me a lot of their products last year and although it is nice, I have better products I prefer.. My all time favourites are garnier serum and spf25
Origins high potency nightamins cream and nip+fab vitamin c

Jamongranary · 13/02/2024 10:04

Thank you @QueeenBee
My total came to over £800 so really need advice before splashing out 🙈

Noted the products you advised X

She's a doctor in podiatry not a dermatologist. It's all perfectly nice to use and that's worth a premium to some but in terms of efficacy it's just hugely overpriced for what it is, relying on very cheap ingredients like hyaluronic acid.

Better things are out there for far less money, it just kind of depends on what you're looking for (eg. if that premium sensorial feel of skincare is important to you or not).

Martinisarebetterdirty · 13/02/2024 10:32

I use the rich face cream, love it and worth it for me, I like the feel of it. I won’t buy unless 15-20% discount on cult beauty or space NK. I have used the vit c (no better than anything else for me), the hyaluronic acid (from a gift set) and it was heavenly, but not worth the money long term. Body cream is exactly the same as Clarins super moisturising one. I’m not keen on the cleansers. It all comes down to what works for you, you can generally get samples on eBay or vinted to try.

Well i was using Medik8 , serums , day and night creams .. spf

As i get older i was hoping to find more advanced products ( im 36) for anti ageing , firming skin etc

I don't mind investing as long as it's worth it . And i read some great reviews about her products but there are so many on market , that's why im here for recommendations :)

You're a lot better off sticking with Medik8 over Barbara Sturm, but if you want to level up from Medik 8 I'd recommend the prescription Tretinoin route. You can do that through the prescription services like skin + me or dermatica. If you'd prefer a more holistic system approach at a more premium price point you can go to one of the clinics that offer tretinoin in combination with either the ZO obagi or the obagi medical line.

Depends …

The Enzyme Cleanser for Darker Skins is one of the best things I’ve ever used*. Also lasts forever so very cost effective; I’ve re-bought several times. The corresponding Foam Cleanser (it’s not foam!) is also fabulous.

But if that’s not relevant to you then I couldn’t say. I haven’t bought any other products because of the hype and expense and variable responses - all the samples I’ve tried have been perfectly nice but I haven’t used in sufficient quantities to say if they justify the cost.

*Yes, I hate the name.

AnnaMagnani · 13/02/2024 11:41

If you are already using Medik8 then you might as well change to a prescription service such as Skin + Me or Dermatica.

Spending more money on product at that level is just going to be about packaging and branding.

Letsgetouttahere2023 · 13/02/2024 11:43

Not worth it.

You need ingredients not branding

Past about £20-30 everything is jisy about branding and you're being ripped off

seasally · 13/02/2024 11:44

@AnnaMagnani @botemp Do you think Skin+me is better than the medik8 crystal 20?
I have worked my way through the crystal levels and now use 20 but wondering if a tret is better?

It's a higher concentration and more direct delivery system, so yes, it's more effective and probably also cheaper, I think. Also, as it's a medication they have to adhere to different standards so the stated percentage is the actual percentage and will continue to be that percentage during the lifetime of the product, that's not the case in many otc products.

Casualbrowser21 · 13/02/2024 12:09

The foam cleanser is not worth it - much prefer my usual cerave! Haven’t been impressed with the range.

If you want to splurge, Augustinus Bader and Sunday Riley are very nice. My skin always looks brighter when using.

superplumb · 16/02/2024 20:58

Stick to medik8 or another tret product. Barbara sturm is so Iver rated. I've had a few products in advent calenders and they are nothing amazing, nor is Augustus B. My nivea was better than thr rich cream.

bryceQ · 16/02/2024 21:09

Absolutely not worth it. Ridiculously overpriced

bryceQ · 16/02/2024 21:10

For anti aging start with tret

Jamongranary · 16/02/2024 21:18

okay , thanks for everyone's advice,
I'm just so confused now then why it has so many 5 star reviews and lots of women fawning over that brand ?

I got some tretinoin now and will stick to medik8 for vitamin C/hyaluronic serums , and day/night creams ..

Whenever Vogue or Harper's have one of those videos featuring an A Lister and their preferred skincare products they always mention Dr Barbara Sturm. So I've just assumed she's a Hollywood 'doctor' who's cultivated ($$$) celeb relationships. I've been underwhelmed by any products I've tried.

Ithinkitstimeforbed · 16/02/2024 21:22

I got the eye cream in my vogue advent calendar and I was so excited to use it- I have been so underwhelmed! For the price I guess I was expecting my eyes to at least feel hydrated, but I genuinely think I’ve had better results using boots own brand. It’s totally put me off using any other products from the brand.

AnnaMagnani · 16/02/2024 22:41

I always assume any celebrity, especially American, plugging a brand does not use it as surely they are all seeing cosmetic dermatologists and using tret, botox, fillers and cosmaceutical brands -like Medik8 or Skinceuticals.

5 star reviews can be bought or produced by bots.

WhatWillIWear · 17/02/2024 07:33

@AnnaMagnani I’m definitely not a Hollywood celebrity - and I’m not seeing cosmetic dermatologists and using tret, botox, fillers and cosmaceutical brands

I have found the two cleansing products for black skin absolutely excellent, both immediately and over long term use - and I’d be sorry if anyone was put off even trying them because other people haven’t found other products worthwhile.

Yeah im sure her products are not bad , as those reviews are from verified purchases and lots of women like them

Probably just unreasonable pricing is the issue mostly ... I'd expect a lot from serum that is nearly £300 , but i will try cleanser !

thank you X

You can get nice skin for a lot less. You need to do more reading and not be swayed by prices.

My skincare cost less than £10 a month. I'm 50 and I have lovely skin.

Morning
Geek and gorgeous vit c
Cerave cleanser and moisturiser- big pumps last 6 months

Evening
Cerave cleanser
True skincare serum - normally Rosehip (I ❤️ this)

Jamongranary · 17/02/2024 11:01

@Dorsetlover ohhhh rosehip oil
is lush , sometimes i just apply only that at night and my skin is glowing in the morning! definitely recommend too ❤️
