Clinique - what's good?

I used to use this about 10-15 years ago now! I used to love the vibe. I'm now nearly 40 - what's good?

I like their Take the Day Off makeup remover, and the Chubby Stick Shadow Tint eye make up. Oh, and their concealer too.

youveturnedupwelldone · 08/02/2024 22:41

I love:

Moisture surge - the eye cream, regular face cream and intense eye cream

Take the day off cleanser - face and eye versions

All about eyes serum roll on

Clarifying lotion - currently using number 1 as my skin is quite dry these days, used to use 2.

I always have those products on hand!

I also like their liquid face wash but don't buy it so often.

IamChipmunk · 08/02/2024 22:43

Rinse off foaming cleanser face wash, stay matte pressed powder, superbalanced foundation.
I also really liked their super primer but they discontinued it.
They also do a nice body scrub, sparkle skin.

Black Honey Almost Lipstick!! A cult favourite these days for a reason

Seconded! It's the only thing I buy from Clinique now.

learieonthewildmoor · 09/02/2024 03:28

Concealer
tinted moisturiser
moisture surge
moisturising gel for hot weather
chubby stick blush and highlighter- eyeshadows don’t last on me even with primer, but they’re pretty colours

learieonthewildmoor · 09/02/2024 03:29

Oh and black honey gloss. All the pop glosses are good. They’re tacky, but nourishing.

foxlover47 · 09/02/2024 04:03

I still use the classic 3 step skincare and the take the day off , I like the pop blushers too

That's what I used to do back in the day! Glad they still do the 3 step. I might go and find a counter when I'm next in town.

For me, their Super Balance foundation. They do a really great range of colours and I've stuck with it for over 20 years!

Used to love their sparkle skin scrub but never see that any more.

Rosiiee · 09/02/2024 07:06

I live for their moisture surge and dark spot corrector cream. I use both daily and have done for years! Love that the moisturiser isn’t sticky or greasy! The spot corrector has given me a nice even skin tone too.

Shudacudawuda · 09/02/2024 07:14

I like the 7 day scrub (For face).
Pre make up exfoliation, my makeup goes on so smoothly after this it's a product I always come back to.

They have a pink one now too!

It's really pretty and has the same easy wear the original has but just a prettier vibe. Lovely for summer

DuchessOfSausage · 09/02/2024 07:42

I'm not keen on any of it, but I love Estee Lauder.

BlindurErBóklausMaður · 09/02/2024 07:49

The toner in the 3 step was (and is) an acid exfoliating toner decades before every other company started marketing theirs!

The Quickliners for eyes are the best out there in my opinion. I always used them, then stopped, thinking, meh, an eyeliner is an eyeliner. It's not. Just got one in their sale and they are so good.

Regarding skincare, it depends on your skin type. There's nothing for very dry skin (me!) though years ago they did a great moisturizer in a tube for dry and sensitive. They do still market heavily towards the "oil free" products for oilier skin (that was their original demographic target, skin that was "problem" and needed almost medical intervention - remember their white coats?) That said, I got a good old Dramatically Different in a gift set and I'm currently using it as a day cream and it's a fuckton more hydrating than Moisture Surge and sits beautifully under makeup (unlike MS which as a gel, tends to make makeup pill if you aren't careful)

Their mascaras are pretty rubbish so you can swerve them.

Double powder is great though they've discontinued the best loose powder ever (Gentle Light)

BlindurErBóklausMaður · 09/02/2024 07:51

PS if you want to buy from Clinique, Estée Lauder, Clarins etc use their websites and not counters. Loads more offers and discounts and a lot of freebies. My "free sample" from Clinique was a 200ml sunscreen and my "free sample" from Clarins was a full size cleanser. If you sign up to them there's almost always up to 20-30% off your first purchase.

DuchessOfSausage · 09/02/2024 07:54

This is mainly why I dislike the brand. The mascaras I've tried went smelly really quickly and I tended to get panda eyes.
The chubby stick lip colour only contains a tiny amount and seems to only last a few minutes on my lips.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 09/02/2024 07:57

Their tube mascara is amazing though. I’ve tried them all, and always come back to Clinique.

LillythePinky · 09/02/2024 07:57

Going against the grain here a bit.

I used to buy loads of Clinique as I had very sensitive skin (and some skin issues.)

I think a lot of it is very ordinary now and there are cheaper options.
eg Moisture Surge is ok but Neutrogena do a version (blue pots) that's 1/4 of the price. And Boots No 7 do one (not used it) but the same kind of gel.

They discontinued the foundation I used and I've recently bought Clinical Serum which is okay but a bit too matte for my liking. Even Better doesn't work for me (the shades are too pink or yellow.)

I quite like their eye pencils and their lipstick with a 20% discount is a good buy.

I always buy off their website because there are offers.
The last one, I bought the foundation and an eye pencil and got a 30ml pot of Moisture Surge free.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 09/02/2024 08:00

I’m with you on their moisturisers, @LillythePinky . I don’t get the love for those at all. Dramatically Different is such a meh product.

dailyduel · 09/02/2024 08:04

hzx · 09/02/2024 01:24

Seconded! It's the only thing I buy from Clinique now.

Have you tried pink honey? I am considering it.

NeedWineNow · 09/02/2024 09:25

Take the Day Off cleansing balm. I've tried loads but always come back to this.
All about Eyes eye cream
Clarifying Lotion number 1
7 Day scrub cream
City Block spf25 (but so wish they'd bring back the spf40 one as the spf50 one is just awful).
Facial wash in the mauve tube
Moisture Surge
Body cream
Bare Pop lipstick - wear it daily

I used to love Take the Day Off for lips and eyes but the last bottle made my eyes a bit sore and didn't seem as effective so may have to change. Also have been a bit disappointed by the mascara of late so again will look for a different brand.

Me too. I try others, but always come back to Clinique

biarritz · 09/02/2024 09:30

I used to love their Heather moon lipstick but they discontinued the colour. Does anyone know of a similar lipstick to this colour in any brand?
I still buy Clinique Happy fragrance and notice there is now a shower gel to match it
