How to make shoes less slippy?

Does anyone have any tips on how to make shoes less slippy please? I recently bought a lovely pair of boots but the soles and the kitten heel are almost entirely smooth. I skidded on them twice while out. I love them though so don’t want to return them/ get rid of them - so, any tips or tricks please?

I had some boots like this and took them to a cobbler for a resole

You can take them to the cobbler and get a thin non slip sole added, or you can scuff the existing sole with sandpaper.

Rub the soles with some sandpaper, or if desperate use a nail file.

My mother used to sandpaper slippy soles back in the day. You could give it a try I suppose!

I take mine to be resoled or heeled with more grippy stuff

I score the soles in a cross cross pattern with a knife. I don’t think I have ever had a slippy heel though.

Hairspray?

Anyone see the episode of Kath and Kim where she put double sided tape on her soles to give her some grip? As she walked up the aisle?

SameSameButDeliverance · 08/02/2024 23:05

Yes to hairspray & scuffing the soles with sandpaper first.

I have scuffed mine up on the tarmac outside a nightclub with the bouncers looking at me like I was insane. After I had walked in with new shoes and nearly slipped straight over.

Take a cheese grater to the bottoms. Really effective.
