Inspiration for a 40-ish, apple shaped woman going clubbing!

Invited to a 90’s music club-style night. But completely out of my comfort zone fashion-wise!

Me - early 40s, not particularly glam or girly, size 18- 20, 5-7 so reasonably tall, my stomach is my problem area so don’t want to accentuate it. Oh and I never wear heels.

My fabulous friends - a bit younger, but cooler and slimmer than me. Talk is of jeans and nice top for the event, probably trainers for comfort (which I’m happy with)

What do I wear? I have decent trainers, also black leather jacket and nice bag. I love the idea of wide leg trousers and an embellished or striped top with these, but surely wide leg trousers need a more fitted top and I’m struggling with this look. or do I go for bootcut jeans?

If you are similar shaped and have found a fabulous going out outfit recently, please send me your ideas and links - thank you!

I’d go for wide leg or bootcut jeans (or cargo pants are very 90s!) with a shirt tied at the waist. If you go for fairly oversized it won’t feel revealing but will draw you in at the waist. You could go for checks or a fun stripe. Chunky trainers and a 90s style updo with some hair accessories and you’re good to go.

Thank you - the shirt round the waist might be a good shout!

I'd go for stretchy coated 'leather' leggings/skinny jeans with a stylish shirt over them.

River island 'Molly' Jeans have decent stretch in them.

Then get a trendy cross-body bag.

With nice flat or chunky boots. Like a Chelsea boot with a zip up the side.
