I’m not in the same age range but I liked the foundation for a while. It has a good coverage which you can build up and make thicker if you really need to. Only issue I found is they don’t have a great variety of colour comparisons so I either needed to go a few shades lighter or darker. The foundation can also seem quite cakey as the day goes on.
If you have a shop nearby that has an Estee Lauder section then speak with one of the consultants and see if you can try a small tester pot before fully committing. This will also help with getting the right colour match.

Depends what you like.

If you like heavy coverage and staying power and are not worried about settling in lines, then yes. if you like something more natural, no.

Give it a try. It has many devoted users.

MrsCharlieD · 07/02/2024 08:23

I'm 40 and have been using this for probably 20 years. I get tempted by different brands and have tried ones from Mac, Nars, Too Faced, Lancôme etc but I always go back to this. It suits my skin and really evens out my complexion. I've never had issues with cakeyness.

boopboopbidoop · 07/02/2024 09:01

It's an extremely high coverage foundation. It can be applied more naturally but it takes so much work to do so that it just makes more sense to get something else.

Dior Forever range is good. Long lasting but comes in various finishes. Some more skin like than DW

YSL all hours ditto

I've known older people who swear by it and say they think it looks natural but it doesn't. They just can't see it.

Like this woman who is an actual beauty writer. She thinks it looks good. It doesn't

I only use this for evenings out when I know the lighting won’t be bright as find it rather mask like. I also don’t like the bottle as find it hard to just get a small amount.

dudsville · 07/02/2024 09:05

I used to wear it OP, but recently swapped to EL Futurist Hydra Rescue, and I use the primer too. The cover is about the same as ELDW but it has spf 40 or 50, and isn't drying and matt like ELDW.

dudsville · 07/02/2024 09:08

Ps, i think this is more expensive, but I bought two tubes in august last year. One was the one I was matched with in store but then i thought was too pale, so I went back and got the next one down. So two tubes but in august, I wear one in winter and one in summer, and neither tube is showing signs of being empty any time soon. I only use 1 pump each time. So for me i think this is good value.

Lemonyyellow · 07/02/2024 09:11

I love it. I’m 37 with an uneven complexion and it really evens it out. I put a thin layer on and it doesn’t look Cakey. I reapply if I’m going out of an evening

Psychoticbreak · 07/02/2024 09:16

46 and this is my personal choice of foundation.

user1497787065 · 07/02/2024 09:17

I’ve used it for years and I think it’s all about what you use beneath it and using it sparingly and applying carefully. I find a brush works best.

No foundation is going to look good with poor skin preparation or poor application. I’ve read so many threads on MN saying it’s heavy and ‘cakey’

I don't really see what's wrong with this, she looks good to me?

Swearwolf · 07/02/2024 09:18

I like it, I have uneven skin and lots of freckles so need good coverage. I've recently switched over to Clinique Even Better foundation, which I think I prefer.

Psychoticbreak · 07/02/2024 09:27

@user1497787065 fully agree, the secret to good makeup is good skin. I also have the EL primer which is a lovely product but skin prep is key.

barkymcbark · 07/02/2024 09:33

If you go to an Estes Lauder counter they might give you a small amount to try before you buy

MissRheingold · 07/02/2024 10:05

I have y tried Il Makiage but a lot of Estée Lauder fans have switched to using it.

Dfg15 · 07/02/2024 11:10

I tried Il Makiage, but didnt like the feel of it on my skin. Stuck with DW which Ive used for years

foxlover47 · 07/02/2024 11:14

It's too heavy for me i feel it sits in my crows feet and really makes them pop

seafoamgreenhair · 07/02/2024 11:21

To me, it smells like paint thinner.

Rina66 · 07/02/2024 13:33

I've used DW for over 25 years, since it first came out, I'm 58. I've tried so many other foundations, Armani, YSL, Nars, Dior, Chanel, Elizabeth Arden etc but nothing compares to the staying power of DW, all other foundations end up on my clothes, my paperwork and my family!

I moisturise well (Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream), mix the DW with either Trinny BFF or Iconic glow drops, apply with a flat top stippling brush and really buff it in. I then spray my face with Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Filter setting spray and dab lightly all over with a cosmetic sponge - takes a lot less time than it sounds!

Houseplanter · 07/02/2024 13:38

Loved it when I was younger and smoother; too dry and cakey for my older skin

Loved their Water Fresh Light but they discontinued it.

Can't get a sample of their new Tinted Serum for love nor money which has convinced me EL isn't for me after many many years.

I'm looking for cruelty free now.

Purpleandredandyellow · 07/02/2024 14:26

I love it (48 yo) but my issue is redness / unevenness in my skin and blushing. I don't have a lot of lines for it to settle into and my skin is normal. I do use a damp spongy thing to apply it (beauty blender) and find it applies much nicer. Sometimes I have to warm it a bit with my fingers too to work it into my skin. But once it's on it stays on and covers a multitude

I use both and the primer is also amazing,if fact a bit of DW mixed with the primer and applied looks fantastic .

I love DW, I think the secret is getting the exact shade match and applying with a buffer brush.

Me too wrt redness etc.

Rina66 · 07/02/2024 15:12

I forgot to add, wondered if it's just me, but lots of other foundations really make my eyes sting and water too, literally until I take it off, Double Wear has never had that effect on me.
