I'm another one on the EL Futurist Hydra Rescue bandwagon: Great coverage but not heavyweight, blends wonderfully with my sponge, and the SPF is a great bonus on top of my own sunscreen. I have a deluxe sample of the EL primer that I use when I'm going out for more than just errands, and the fact that I'm trying to make it last by only using it when I want to look my best tells you how good it is!

I did recently get a bottle of DW for half off last year, and while I see the benefit for those who are great with working with the formula and want that kind of coverage, it's a little too much for me. I tend to reach for it with a brush and sponge when I have a bad hormonal breakout area, so I'll actually be working with it again today. (And why are they so against just including a pump with it?? C'mon!)

I forgot to add, wondered if it's just me, but lots of other foundations really make my eyes sting and water too, literally until I take it off, Double Wear has never had that effect on me.

Most definitely, it's really non irritating.

What's wrong with how this woman looks?!

thefallen · 07/02/2024 16:46

I love it. I apply one pump's worth with a damp sponge and it's not at all cakey, just good coverage and amazing staying power. A bottle lasts months and months.

Shopper727 · 07/02/2024 16:52

I have a double wear lighter that has good coverage but isn’t white as heavy as dw it’s a great night out foundation, the one I have is a bit dark for me. I have a lovely Clarins one for day time and a dr jarrt light cc or bb cream for work days - nurse so I don’t wear much just enough so I look alive instead of pale and ill.

GreenClock · 07/02/2024 16:55

Not RTFT but the writer woman in the photo looks very good imo. What am I missing?

MrsCharlieD · 07/02/2024 17:04

I also never put foundation on my eyelids or under eyes. I use concealer for this. Good skin prep and a water based primer is key and I set with the Huda beauty setting powder and finish with the beauty crop setting spray.

WhatchaLookingAt · 07/02/2024 17:04

I’m not in the same age range but I used it a few years back and didn’t like it.

It was difficult to blend & felt thick & dry on my skin. I found it quite aging but
I’ve since been told it’s “all in the application” and to use a damp beauty blender. I know lots of people really love it.

Could you get a sample to try?

LoobyDop · 07/02/2024 17:34

I also can’t see a problem with the photos of the actual makeup artist who has the temerity to think she looks good. She does look good. That isn’t my idea of heavy, cakey foundation.

I'm glad you said that, I thought I was missing something!

Can I ask, what is it you think is wrong with this woman's makeup? She looks good to me! Foundation isn't thick, cakey, or settled in lines??

eggbot · 07/02/2024 17:58

I find it sucks the life out of people. Much better to have a bit of glow

It's incredibly flat

AristotelianPhysics · 07/02/2024 18:00

I’ve been using it for years and I just love it. It will last 12hrs+ and not budge. I don’t find it heavy or cakey. It is expensive but lasts 3-4 months. Always get compliments on my skin.

TheChosenTwo · 07/02/2024 18:04

I used to use this, but so sparingly, a quarter (maybe less) of a whole pump did my whole face, I sheered it out so much. It’s incredibly full coverage.
It will settle into fine lines without decent prep beforehand and it just doesn’t suit me anymore. I want something I can just launch at my face and not worry about it leaving my eyes looking like they’ve got 300 wrinkles (which I don’t but I found towards the 6 hour mark ELDW was settling into lines that I didn’t know I had!).

Is that code for “doesn’t have weird stripes of contouring everywhere”

Yellowtulip14 · 07/02/2024 18:21

I thought the same…

BetiYeti · 07/02/2024 18:22

I’m 41 and started wearing the EL DW Futurist Hydra Rescue Foundation recently. I had worn the usual DW in the past, but with age and the cold weather, my skin has become drier and doesn’t suit a heavier foundation. The Futurist feels smooth and goes on quite lightly. I don’t think it offers the same coverage as the original formula, but the heavier stuff would be too cakey on my skin nowadays. What I really like about the Futurist is the nice glow it gives my skin. You could ask at the Estée Lauder counter for a sample if you fancy trying it, or any of their products for that matter. I wanted to check before splurging £40 and they have me enough to try for a few days.

Passthepickle · 07/02/2024 18:31

Hydra is nice but slides off me. DW lasts all day but I only use a tiny smidge over my t zone - the colour match is exact and it is fab on well prepped skin. Mine goes on after gel sunscreen and I apply with fingers. I use a fraction of a pump - my bottle usually does about a year and a half. DWlight was perfection but discontinued

whatthejuice · 07/02/2024 18:33

IT cosmetics cc cream is fantastic. Hydrating and glory and medium coverage but you can definitely build it to full coverage.

superplumb · 07/02/2024 19:03

I like it but I use decent skincare underneath and a good primer. I do find it matt but I use Laura mercier glow setting power. Only because I hate the tacky feel of foundation. This gives some glow. I avoid my eye area due to lines. I also have the pump so I can control the amount more.
I did try the lighter version which was lovely but didn't last half as long

Laiste · 07/02/2024 19:19

I love it.

I don't want to love it because it's pricey, but i've tried and tried to find something similar and i can't beat it.

I find you can 'layer' it. So i pat a small amount on all over with my fingertips (i wont use a sponge - it's too £ to have loads of it sucked up into a sponge!) and keep patting till it's thin enough coverage.

Sometimes (in summer mostly) i only put it on my T zone. Cheeks look better without any foundation and you don't need the jaw line blend.

Laiste · 07/02/2024 19:20

Just to add - i wear it practically every day and a bottle lasts me about 3/4 months.

boopboopbidoop · 07/02/2024 19:38

@Swearwolf I don't really see what's wrong with this, she looks good to me?

Ok then you'll probably like ELDW. I think many people just can't see. The woman in the photo looks crepey, dry, patchy and her pores are made more obvious by the foundation. None of this is desirable with a good foundation. She looks terrible and it's not just her skin. She could look so much better.

boopboopbidoop · 07/02/2024 19:40

@thefallen What's wrong with how this woman looks?!
The foundation has intensified her pores, makes her skin look drier and crepey and has made the lines around her eyes look worse. She looks terrible in this foundation it has aged her 10 years.
