The ones that maximise the dimensions tend to be fairly functional.

Have a look at Cabin Max and Cabin Zero - both have compression straps, are decent quality and come in a range of colours.

my friend has this and is v nice

I also have the Nordace, been round the world several times and holding up v well. I use it as my only luggage for 3 night trips. Fits under the seat if you can't get it in the overhead.

Nordace looks good but I've left it a bit late to order it to arrive by Friday! Might just get a cheap non-pretty one for now and then upgrade when it falls apart...

Fitting under seat is what I'm looking for, I'm too short to reach overhead lockers 😂
