Does anyone else feel anxious going to the hairdresser?

I've always seemed to have this issue, I don't know what it is about the whole experience but it's always made me feel like crap. I go to a salon where there are 2 stylists and the last few times I've gone, my regular stylist has been off or not there (without informing any of her clients that day). The other stylist can be incredibly rude and condeand it's made me not want to return anymore. I've searched for mobile stylists but haven't been able to find anyone so far.
Anyone else deal with salon anxiety and if so, how have you found a way around it? I know it sounds so stupid and like a first world problem. I should also mention that I've got Adhd so that makes things even more difficult

I am sure there are lovely, caring and sensitive hairdressers however to find one I would have to go through several which costs time and money not to mention the anxiety of trying a new one. Words of mouth are no guarantee because people perceptions vary.

This is why I've learnt to do my own hair thanks to social media (youtube, tiktok..etc). I do a better job than a bad hairdresser but of course nowhere near a pro stylist of course. It helps that I keep my hairstyle natural and simple so less goes wong eg dying close to natural hair, never cut it too short that it can't be put up or pinned back and hidden.

You can order salon quality product and scissors online.

I like it now I have ditched salons and go to people who work from home. Am on number so far, 2 where I used to live as one gave up and one in new area. She has a lovely large cabin, has one person at a time and she is lovely so it makes for a very pleasant experience.

I stuck with one hairdresser for a DECADE, I hated what she used to do to my hair, but she friended me on Facebook and made it super awkward to leave.

In the end I had a child and she cut his hair awful and that was the final straw. We left and now got a much better one.

I love going to the hairdresser, though it's taken me two years to find someone who dues my hair the way I like it and she's now moved away! The best haircut I ever got was a spur of the moment drop in one off Oxford Street.
My friend has a mobile hair stylist and I joined her once. But I had to wash my own hair and show up with it wet, so she didn't see how my hair normally falls. And I missed the nice shampoo and conditioner and little head massage!
But I agree - you want your own stylist and if I had one I normally used then I'd be very put out if they weren't there and I hadn't been told - I might even refuse the appointment.

I'm another one who doesn't like the need to chat in the hairdressers. I'm glad to hear that some stylists appreciate the quiet, but I always seem to be surrounded by other clients enthusiastically chatting nonstop and it makes me feel like a social misfit!

So any salons near you offer silent appointments?

My hairdresser is lovely, but I hate going. I think it's such an unnatural situation, sitting on a chair whilst someone messes around with your hair. Added to that, I hate being touched by most people. I also don't like attention, and really, that's what you're getting. I only go 2-3 times a year. I have a dry cut and I'm out in 20 minutes. Recently, I've started cutting my own hair a bit. Luckily, it's long, messy and wavy, so very forgiving!

I'm at the salon now!! Just walked in and it was awkward as anything! lol!!! Dreading the small talk now but hoping it will go quickly lol

Just came back to this thread now and wow thanks for all of your responses. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one who feels like this. I've found a salon who just does cuts and it seems ideal so going to give that a go this week

Yes, hate it. Because 99% of them are useless with wavy and curly hair. I just get a trim about 4 times a year.

I was asked if I wanted a diffuser recently. Last time I checked we weren't in the 90's Hmm....

lol.. I expect they asked you that because people with curly hair are using them again now, they are becoming popular again.

Gosh I went this week and whilst having my head shampooed I felt I was hanging like bat ears! It's really hurt my neck.
