My hair was dyed a dark brown & I had some highlights put in by a friend that my sil knows & tbh, they’re like yellow/ orangey stripes. So I have stripey black, brown, yellow/ orangey hair, with a reddish tone. And it’s dry looking. I’ve gone over it with a dark ash blonde to try & subdue the highlights but it didn’t touch them. I hate it & it’s getting me down.

I don’t want to add more highlights, that’ll kill it & probably make it more yellow/orange. A purple/blue shampoo won’t make a difference. I don’t want to go & put a dark brown over it as it just defeats why I got highlights in the first place. What can I do? A Vit C shampoo thingy will only make my hair even more dry & it will end up probably more reddish & orange.

Is there any product I can put on it to subdue the highlights & cool the tone town without making the rest of my hair even darker? I just wanted light brown highlights!

You could try an ash toner like Wella colour touch, I think it is T18 ?

Probably best going to a proper hairdresser if you can afford it.

You could try a toner, or a colour mousse, indola silver is good at toning down yellow, it's non damaging, can be used every 6 washes and is relatively cheap. I would also invest in some matrix instacure to improve the condition.

Thanks for your reply’s.

So, frustrated by my tiger-esque hair, I got a pack of colour B4 & anxiously slapped it on - it’s such a bloody faff though isn’t it, Wash hair first, dry it, apply it, especially the new formula, mixing powder?! Although the rinsing time has reduced & I thought that used to be the most important part!

Anyway so I do have hair left on my head. It’s got most of the dark brown out, there are some real stubborn pieces though, I’ve used colour B4 in the past & its done a better job than this, maybe it’s the new powder formula or the rinsing time.

Obviously the highlights are the same but at least, I think it looks better, my hair looks an overall coppery/brown with a few highlighted bits, there’s not suck a stark contrast between the highlights & the rest of my hair.

It doesn’t look like it’s damaged it too much, although I will have to be extra gentle on my hair from now on.

My only concern now is re-oxidation - it may go dark again over next couple of days, I really hope it doesn’t, I don’t want to have to do another colour b4 application, I cba & wouldn’t do that to my hair again.
