Mob wife

Are you channeling this aesthetic?

The cynic in me says it's a fashion industry reaction to the simple, neutral look we've been having the last few years

I think it also will look appalling on over 40s (like me).

3 Easy Ways to Master the Mob Wife Aesthetic (Without Getting Arrested by the Fashion Police)

A few tips to ensure those femme fatale outfits feel a bit more elevated and less chaotic.

It's just fashion innit. Fun. I like a black wing eye liner and red lipstick occasionally which is my version. No fur but a big long oversized coat.

Doglegs · 02/02/2024 16:29

Oh and am always in animal print!

QuaterMiss · 02/02/2024 16:34

So the whole point of your thread was to tell every woman in the world who is over 40 that fashion trends are not meant for her?

Cool …

Jemimapuddleduk · 02/02/2024 16:40

Love this look and it’s never gone out of fashion for me! I love a faux fur coat, adore gold jewellery, red lipstick and leopard print. I’m over 40 btw too.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 02/02/2024 16:41

I don't think you're being a cynic, I would say it's a natural reaction to all this norm core, "clean girl" stuff.
That being said this trend has never gone away in certain parts of the US and used to be in eastern Europe but I think it's just the older generation now.

It's not for me but I can appreciate the appeal, nothing wrong with a bit of flamboyance and femininity.

SaunteringOnBy · 02/02/2024 16:43

Looks stupid.

foxlover47 · 02/02/2024 16:45

I'm over 40 I still love a bit of leopard print , faux fur and a red lip

Exactly. I am over 40 and I feel it would look like I'm still doing it from first time around.

Point of thread was to discuss mob wife and see if anyone's embracing.

Goo to see some are

I don't fancy it - might look a bit Pat Butcher/Bet Lynch if you aren't careful. But at the same time, we've had the minimalist style for a long time now and people do miss the more obvious glamour. I think we will end up just adopting one or two ideas from this look , rather than going full head to toe with it.

Divebar2021 · 02/02/2024 23:03

No I’m not. (Although I have a fake fur from my mum who wore it in the 70’s.) I’m really sick to the back teeth of these whirlwind trends… coastal grandma, quiet luxury… etc etc. It shows a remarkable lack of individual flair so no I’m not here for it.

AreolaGrande · 02/02/2024 23:51

It ain't a trend if you never stopped wearing it.

Real fur looks appalling on any age.

But given this look presumably involves structured tailoring ( I can't be bothered reading it) then if anything it might be better on older women. Younger people in structured tailoring have a tendency to look as if they're still wearing school uniform or going for their first proper job interview.

But to answer your question, no "I'm not channeling this aesthetic"

Not so much Mob Wife...more Tart With a Heart.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 03/02/2024 09:26

I love it! Whilst I will never be fashion forward, I might actually, accidentally, be on trend.

Overtheatlantic · 03/02/2024 09:32

This thread reminds me of a great movie from 1988 called Married to the Mob. Early Michelle Pfeiffer and Alec Baldwin.

TheLeadbetterLife · 03/02/2024 09:49

Surely this sort of look is better on the over 40s? Far too glam (and expensive) for the young.

I love it, though couldn't pull it off myself - I'm too scruffy-lookin'.

I do wear chunky gold earrings though, and, as Caitlin Moran wrote, leopard print is a neutral.

I LOVE that film. Michelle Pfeiffer wears some fabulous outfits in it, too.

Disturbia81 · 03/02/2024 09:55

Why wouldn't it look good over 40!?
Fake fur looks glam on anyone.

I agree! In a more wearable way than the celebs are doing it of course - it’s nice to see a return to a bit of glamour, fitted dresses etc that usually look nicer when you have grown - up curves.

LadyBird1973 · 03/02/2024 11:09

Is leopard print really a neutral though? I'm not sure it goes with everything.
Maybe a small item, like leopard print ballet flats or a bag. But big items are statement pieces to me. I don't believe everyone can carry off animal print.
Or am I misunderstanding what a neutral is?

NewDogOwner · 03/02/2024 11:10

Did anyone watch the reality show Mob Wives? I loved that look.

Further proof, if it were needed, that Caitlin Moran talks nonsense.

I agree, it’s not my style but I think it suits someone 40+ as it runs the risk of someone younger looking like a kid playing dress up in their mum’s clothes.

When I was a teenager I loved classic Hollywood and wanted to wear red lipstick and flicked liner but it always looked silly. I couldn’t pull it off until I was mid-late 20’s. Some looks need a maturity.

Franticbutterfly · 03/02/2024 11:44

I'm all about animal prints and (fake) leather, so looks like I'm already there!

Exactly. So fucking insulting. 40 is not old ffs!! You may think that you would look like shit in it OP but don’t band an entire generation into this with you
