I ordered to try on and plan to wear with black tights and black ankle boots in February and with bare legs and silver shoes in the warmer months.
Hope I will like it.

Do you like it?
How would you style it?

I'm 46 - 5'5 - size 8/10

Floral Purple Crinkle Midi Dress - Oliver Bonas

Midi dress make from a subtly crinkled fabric, with a frilly waist and high neckline. Winter-inspired tones of red and blue form the floral print, drawn and designed in the OB studios.

i would maybe wear a vest that covered over exposure cleavage. theres also shirt style eg vhttps://www.oliverbonas.com/fashion/geometric-print-pink-midi-shirt-dress-359540#selection.color=2005 which means you control the visable flesh....i actual love buttonfront but despise collars.i either cut them off OR buy grandad type

It looks like a Berkertex or Betty Barclay dress. Really awful

It looks like something a stunning 20 year old would buy in a charity shop for £4 and slope about looking beautiful and cool in.

But it would make most humans look like Rose from the Golden Girls on a trip to the bank.

Beautifully put 😂 and I couldn't agree more! Sorry, multi-coloured sack lovers.

This kind of dress looks great worn "ironically". I have the feeling OP isn't being ironic.

I completely disagree with the "ooh it'll looking stunning on .... " mindset.

A fabulous dress is a fabulous dress. Full stop. This isn't a fabulous dress. It's a very ordinary, uninspired dress- as another poster put it a "meh dress". It will be meh dress whoever wears it.

LilyPAnderson · 02/02/2024 20:24

I dislike the pattern and colour.

Garlickit · 02/02/2024 20:34

To be fair, neither of us said it's a fabulous dress. More that fabulous wearers exist: the kind of people (either sex) with such self-knowledge and intrinsic sense of style ... that they never need to post on a forum seeking opinions. If they spend £80 on a polyester dress, it's because they know that they can wear it like it was custom-made for them by an up and coming designer.

I think that's a bit of an MN myth tbh.

I saw that one, I love the colour but geometric shapes usually don't suit me, I will see if I manage to try it on tomorrow in store when I go return the dress on the OP

The shoes are horrendous with the dress! 😳

jasminegamine · 02/02/2024 22:12

Update:
The dress looks too long for me, even the sleeves, and the colour doesn't suit me at all - the fabric is uncomfortable and and even I size 8 looked like I borrowed it from somebody else, and I am 10 in some brands.

Going to return in person tomorrow and see what else is there.

Well at least you tried, so now you’ve got it out your system !

Good luck tomorrow, do post if you find something.

It's actually quite difficult to look at, it's just so busy.

This

like a bowling alley carpet

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 02/02/2024 23:13

Really don't like it. The neckline is awful. It's like a sack with arms. It doesn't look very flattering. There's no shape to it. Not for me.

MidnightSerenader · 02/02/2024 23:25

I don’t know how anyone can look at the photo of the model in the pink fleece(?!) and those shoes, and think, ‘yeah, that’s a look I aspire to’…..

My point was that young cool kids can wear any old shite, and look cool.

This is not a fabulous dress for anyone.

And my point was I think that's an overstated MN myth.

My other objection to the "the it'll only suit..." is that whilst this dress is just dull, it also gets trotted out so often as an objection to wearing anything which is even slightly non mainstream.

SylvanianFrenemies · 03/02/2024 00:26

Ah well. You obviously haven't met my niece. But fair enough.

dastidlydaschel · 03/02/2024 00:31

It looks like it was fifteen quid from Matalan.

RogueFemale · 03/02/2024 00:36

I think you'd have to be drop dead gorgeous to carry off this dress. It's not a horror, but it's never going to flatter.

Yes, I thought so too. It looks bag-ladyish. I've no idea how they home up with these ideas or convince anyone else that it's something special.

QueenBitch666 · 03/02/2024 01:13

Bloody awful 😂

neilyoungismyhero · 03/02/2024 01:17

Shapeless baggy and awful

You made me realise that I might still be living in a far distant past😅
There was a point in time I could wear anything, any style, mix and match whatever I wanted and create something awesome.

Now I’m complete lost about what actually looks good and suit me at my age but learning with lots of mistakes along the way🥵

OP posts:
SylvanianFrenemies · 03/02/2024 10:49

Oh I dont mean to put you off if you really love it.

I just doubt think that style is going to flatter anyone. Its more, to me, going to be a case of looking good in spite of the dress rather than because of it.

I'm a bit in the same boat. I don't want to dress the same as 20 years ago, but I don't want to succumb to some prescribed 40 something uniform either.

hazandduck · 03/02/2024 11:19

Not a fan of the colour, think it’s hard to pull
off. I love the shape of the dress and am I alone in loving the trainers 🙈😂
