Is this dress to awful? Or is it the shoes they styled it with?

I ordered to try on and plan to wear with black tights and black ankle boots in February and with bare legs and silver shoes in the warmer months.
Hope I will like it.

Do you like it?
How would you style it?

Floral Purple Crinkle Midi Dress - Oliver Bonas

Floral Purple Crinkle Midi Dress | Oliver Bonas

Midi dress make from a subtly crinkled fabric, with a frilly waist and high neckline. Winter-inspired tones of red and blue form the floral print, drawn and designed in the OB studios.

It looks as though it could be found in the Edinburgh Woollen Mill, where literally nothing has wool in it and the colours hurt your eyes.

couiza · 01/02/2024 22:44

Neckline is too high, a bit old fashioned for me as a result, plus the fact that I dislike high necklines (on me anyway)!

Deadringer · 01/02/2024 22:45

Hideous

lljkk · 01/02/2024 22:51

I loathe it. I don't want to offend ppl who like it so scroll fast away now.

OMG it's a bag. A garish colours shapeless bag. Just WHY would you?
OP sound petite. That dress won't suit your figure.
Ugh Ugh Ugh.

Moier · 01/02/2024 23:16

I love it apart from the high neck.. but that would be why l wouldn't wear it.. can't stand the feel of high neck clothes.. other than that it's lovely. Very classy and on trend .( l follow Gok and Trinny etc).

SameSameButDeliverance · 01/02/2024 23:22

The pattern is so busy that I’m unable to work out the detail of the dress.

Really not to my taste and I think the length will look odd with ankle boots - will really shorten the leg. I also think black will be far too heavy with those colours and will look mismatched.

If I had to wear it, white flatform Converse boots might work in the summer (and I’d also get the sleeves turned into the length of short sleeves).

ShadowOfTheSeason · 01/02/2024 23:22

I quite like how it looks in the pictures but polyester invariably looks cheap and doesn't hang well so for that reason I wouldn't touch it.

theDudesmummy · 01/02/2024 23:27

Sorry but that is one hideous dress.

Concestor · 01/02/2024 23:31

It's hideous, as are the trainers they've put with it, it looks like the model forgot shoes so they grabbed something out of lost property.

I don't think it would be much improved even with nice footwear. I wouldn't buy it even if it was a tenner.

justasking111 · 01/02/2024 23:32

No to polyesters awful fabric.

I despair of the footwear that they match to dresses these days.

DragonFly98 · 01/02/2024 23:34

hang it in your wardrobe for 30 years then pull it out ,will look great on you then.

PickAChew · 01/02/2024 23:35

Both. It's a nasty, garish polyester thing and the trainers would look better with jeans

Asiatoyork · 02/02/2024 00:16

I like the trainers with it! But it’s polyester, so would be a no from me.

SylvanianFrenemies · 02/02/2024 00:22

It looks like something a stunning 20 year old would buy in a charity shop for £4 and slope about looking beautiful and cool in.

But it would make most humans look like Rose from the Golden Girls on a trip to the bank.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 02/02/2024 00:28

The hyperbole and creative writing are getting silly. It's an ordinary dress. It doesn't to my eyes look terrible but equally it's nothing special. I wouldn't wear it but I've seen dresses lauded on here which I've disliked far more.

The trainers they've paired it with are very ugly.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 02/02/2024 01:07

Not my cup of tea.

DoggusDomesticus · 02/02/2024 02:07

Sorry, OP, but it looks like something my granny would have worn in the 70s.

WomanHereWomanHere · 02/02/2024 02:15

PlasticSurgeonWithASidelineAsAStuntWoman · 31/01/2024 22:13

Blimey, it’s like something my late DGM bought back in the mid 90’s from a charity shop. She was mid 70’s at the time.

Not mid-70’s?! All women in their 70’s automatically look awful and should be used as an example of what other women shouldn’t wear!

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 02/02/2024 03:05

i'm sure the dress has potential but the model, her drippy hair, slumping posture all together makes the dress look ill fitting.
i agree the dark busy pattern makes it hard to discern the finish or any potential redeeming features.
personally i think anyone could style this better than the photographer/brand has.

JanglingJack · 02/02/2024 03:13

Hmm no, I don't like it.

Models can wear anything and make it look almost cool, but not even this one.

Did you say 5'5 ? That's surely going to come mid calf or lower?

Sorry.

MidnightSerenader · 02/02/2024 03:19

Wow, that is clearly one love it or hate it dress. I am in the latter camp.

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/02/2024 04:59

DragonFly98 · 01/02/2024 23:34

hang it in your wardrobe for 30 years then pull it out ,will look great on you then.

😂😂😂

I agree with the comments that this will look edgy on some people. I can imagine some of my university pals wearing that in the way back when with dms and looking fab. Personally it would age me about 20 years and I’d look matronly.

Passingthethyme · 02/02/2024 05:06

Frumpy

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 02/02/2024 06:34

DragonFly98 · 01/02/2024 23:34

hang it in your wardrobe for 30 years then pull it out ,will look great on you then.

Why? Because OP will then be 76? And it's a truth universally acknowledged that a dress too dreadful for a 46 year old to wear is magically suitable for a 76 year old?

Maireas · 02/02/2024 06:50

There's an Oliver Bonas near me, which always looks enticing, but I find that the clothes are over priced for what they are - usually polyester and not well made.
If you like the dress, wear it. Perhaps move away from the ubiquitous leather jacket/trainers combo, though, and it'll look a bit fresher.
