Do you wear your hair the same every day or do you style it in different ways?

I’ve got thick medium length hair and I am so lazy with it. I dry it naturally and wear it loose and straight every day and have done for years. I’d like to try different styles eg messy bun, high pony tail, scraped back. Today I have backcombed a mini quiff and my dc said they liked it! Are you adventurous with your hair or are you boring like me?!

I'm boring but it's because my hair is rubbish. I wear it down all the time either straight or wavy. I don't think it suits me tied back and if I tie it up high (which seems to look good on everyone else) it just looks a mess as it goes all wispy and sticks out round the hair line. Messy buns don't look good as my hair isn't very thick and grips don't stay in.

Floisme · 28/01/2024 12:25

My hair only grows one way and I'm far too lazy to fight it.

viccat · 28/01/2024 12:27

Different mainly for practical reasons. Tied back/up on rainy days or it looks awful. More likely worn down when it's freshly washed and tied back on day 2. I'm growing it again after having a bob and can't wait to be able to have proper up-dos again.

When I had a perm in the 80s it was brilliant as I could style it so many different ways. The banana clips were also fantastic.

Precipice · 28/01/2024 12:33

I have short hair. It's always the same. It looks different when I've just had it cut to when I'm about to have it cut again, but that's due to the length. It's the same day-to-day, only as the days pass it looks a bit different.

Notthesameasitwas · 28/01/2024 14:34

I could try a plait! That should be easy to manage. I don’t think I suit all hair off my face completely as I don’t have the hairline for it. My dd does a tiny low bun and it looks lovely on her but I can’t pull it off.

I have a system 🤣

So I wash my hair every third day. On the morning that it’s clean I’ll straighten it, bit of argon oil to make it smooth/shiny and just have it down. The second day I will do half up half down. Third day (when I’ll be washing it that night) I’ll do braids. This is the system. It only becomes a problem when I have plans that don’t fall on wash day hair.

I wear my ratty hair either in a matrons bun or a high Vicky Pollard ponytail. So I've decided to make an effort. I order a heated barrel hair curler, jumbo velcro rollers, one of these magical hair thing and I just need to get some heat protection spray. Tired of looking like a bog troll!!

I also have a bit of a system too, down when freshly washed and straightened, generally up 2nd day or scrunched as it gets a bit wavy by then, and definitely up if I go to a third day.

Do find though in winter I am more likely to leave it down more as can be cosier when it’s frozen outside.

Do sometimes experiment with half up half down styles, which I think I do suit, but feels often too much effort unless on holiday.

My hair has always been the bane of my life. It is very fine and straight and just 'hangs'. I always used to just stuff it up into a pony tail (apart from when I've had shorter ''styled' styles).

A few years ago I discovered the wonders of the messy bun, and for a long time that was my only style. I went through a period when my hair was quite damaged and the messy bun hid that.

Recently, my hair is a lot healthier and seems to magically be more voluminous than it ever has in my whole life (hormones?) and I can actually wear it out! I tend to whack a few curls through it and it passes for the sort of hair 'normal people' have. But I'm still a fan of the messy bun too!

HeadNW · 28/01/2024 17:54

I have a fairly boring work hair routine which is easy.

Monday - Wash, blow dry and wear down
Tue - half up half down style of some description
Wed - ponytail of some description
Thu - bun of some description
Fri - wash, dry & wear down again

My hair only looks nice down when washed & blow dried and I can’t be arsed doing that every day!

MarshaMarshaMarshmellow · 28/01/2024 17:58

I'm not "adventurous" as such, but will style my hair differently depending what it dictates to me each day! e.g. thought I might wear it down and show it off, but no, it's surprisingly greasy today even though just washed, so dry shampoo and a bun it is, etc

ALongHardWinter · 28/01/2024 18:01

I'm really lazy with my hair. It's pretty long, halfway down to my waist, and I keep thinking I must get it cut (my late DM was always of the opinion that women over 50 should not wear their hair long!). But I've got so used to it now. I wash it every 3 or 4 days, condition it every 4th wash, let it dry naturally, then tie it back in a bun or plait. I only occasionally wear it loose for special occasions, and I always get remarks of omg I didn't realise your hair was so long!

Traumdeuter · 28/01/2024 18:07

I have bra strap length quite thin hair. Most days different - it’s curly but straightens well too with a hot brush, so sometimes I use that. Tied back if I’m at the gym or working outside, sometimes a half pony or two braids/bunches/space buns if I’m running or cycling. I pin, braid or quiff the front if it’s not sitting right. I do a side braid if I’m wearing a hat.

it’s fun!

eandz13 · 28/01/2024 18:09

My hair gets twisted back into a claw clip every single day unless I'm going somewhere fancy, and even then it's still occasionally in a big clip but I at least tame the stragglers. I hate having hair in my face or round my neck.

howaboutapartysong · 28/01/2024 18:10

I wear it differently depending on how clean it is, and what events I have. I wear it down and blow-dried into bouncy waves if I'm going somewhere nice. That'll then be tied up in a pony tail until it needs a wash.

If it needs a wash but I have no where nice to go, it'll get left to air dry. That'll then get put into a claw clip until next wash day.

PrincessPotato · 28/01/2024 21:56

My head is quite narrow at the top and wider at the jaw 🙃 so most of my hairstyles centre around making my head look a normal shape 🤣 if down then some height at the crown and sides with Velcro rollers (or backcombing if I’m going somewhere nice), if a ponytail or bun then slightly messy with some loose pieces, again to add width to the top of my head. My hair is long and thick; used to be straight but more texture since kids and bleach. I feel like wearing it down is a lot of effort to usually look worse than I do with it up, so it doesn’t happen very often.

YouAndMeAndThem · 28/01/2024 22:10

Day one - wash, dry, straighten, wear it down

Day two - re straighten, usually half up half down with a claw clip

Day three - ponytail, dry shampoo fringe

Day four - all scraped back into ponytail, headband on!

Day 5 = day 1

All for practicality and unwashed levels 🤣 I get a lot of comments re my hair always being different lol

Oblomov23 · 28/01/2024 22:24

Yes. Don't most people?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 28/01/2024 23:32

Thick , naturally straight shoulder length hair. Either leave it down with nothing, or low loose ponytail or an Alice band or put it up. I've mastered 4 or 5 very easy putting it up styles which take a couple of minutes and a handful of Kirby grips. Don't need a mirror.

I wear it up more in the summer as it gets too hot with it down. Office gets very hot sometimes even in winter and will put it up then. I never go anywhere without a supply of Kirby grips.

I don't style it at all after washing. Brush through and leave it to air dry if I'm at home; if going out, blast it with a hair dryer to dry it, not style it.

Mine's the same - it's too short to do anything with it, and very liberating!

Lovingthegrungerevival · 29/01/2024 00:58

Mine's thick and long and I usually style it differently everyday - low/high pony, fishtail or french braid(s), bunches, messy bun, structured bun, styled with all kinds of accessories such as hair bands, combs, scarves, barettes etc. I also wear it loose curled with a wand, heated rollers or GHDs or straightened etc. I love having long hair - it's so versatile and so much fun!!

‘Indian squaw’ is quite an offensive term. Perhaps you’re not aware. Lots of other ways to describe wearing plaits either side of your head!

fuckssaaaaake · 29/01/2024 07:16

I've got a massive Afro that just needs me to pull out the bits that squashed at night every morning 😂😂but there's no daily styling I can do to it. I use headscarf's bands etc to change it up tho
