EL Double Wear Foundation - how much do you get? DD devastated

HangingOnJustAbout · 27/01/2024 23:21

DD has wanted a good foundation for ages and has been saving up for ELDW and got it yesterday.

Tried it this morning and it took a lot of effort to get it out of the bottle. Trying to look into it it looks like it's maybe 1/4 full. Is that right? I know things are often put in an over sized bottle.

It's supposed to be 30ml which is about 2 tablespoons, I don't want to have to measure it but think we may have to! Thought I'd ask on here first. It'd be nice to hear 'yes but don't worry, it lasts ages'!

She's so upset, spent nearly £40 on something that looks like it'll last her 2 weeks tops.

Any tips on getting every last drop out would be helpful too!

Oh you need one of the pumps - sold separately.

And it does last ages!

Houseplanter · 27/01/2024 23:39

I'd second the pumps. Or you can buy super thin spatulas from Amazon

My bottle is always full when new. Where did she buy from?

caringcarer · 27/01/2024 23:42

The bottle is full when new. You squeeze and a drop starts to come out.

TheChosenTwo · 27/01/2024 23:44

I’ve had it before and the bottle seemed full.
It did last me ages though as i used a tiny amount, it’s incredibly thick/heavy coverage and I used probably less than a quarter of a pump and really sheered it out as much as possible as it felt heavy using any more than that.
I’d be shocked if she went through a bottle in 2 weeks!

Cincinnatus · 27/01/2024 23:44

Yes you need the pump. I think it’s about £5. A bottle lasts me 3-4 months.

Mirrormeback · 27/01/2024 23:55

That's weird she should return it

Hopefully she got it from Boots not some weird 3rd party seller online somewhere

MsCactus · 27/01/2024 23:55

I use this foundation - it's great and literally lasts me months. Probably four or five months of daily wear I'd say. She won't get through it in two weeks, it's very high coverage so you only need a small amount.

MsCactus · 27/01/2024 23:56

*but I've never heard of a new bottle being half empty as you say - mine are full

toomanyleggings · 27/01/2024 23:58

Always full bottle. Last me 4 months at least and I’m heavy handed with it, don’t use a pump and wear daily

PeggySooo · 28/01/2024 00:00

How weird. As far as I can remember mine are always full. It lasts me ages but its my "good" one, so not every day use.

Appleblum · 28/01/2024 00:26

Get a pump. But even without the pump you should be able to pour it out easily. You only need a tiny amount as it's high coverage.

HangingOnJustAbout · 28/01/2024 00:31

After reading these replies I decided to pour it out. There's less than a teaspoon in there. Obviously loads left stuck to the bottle but it's basically empty.

I'm going to call Boots tomorrow. I'm not sure they'll be inclined to believe a 15 year old claiming their expensive foundation was already empty!

Thank you very much. Hoping I can arrange a replacement.

I've definitely had this before with makep, unfortunately I had bought it, boxed, in France and didn't open it till i got home. It was less than 1/4 full.
I reckon somebody had returned it and the sales person just put it back in the shelf without checking. The box was glued down but that's easy to do!

saltnvini · 28/01/2024 07:11

Their twitter DM people are usually very helpful. If you bought in store then go back to the store.

Justus6 · 31/01/2024 00:07

I'm sorry this happened sounds like they sold a tester instead of new bottle..

IMO DW is overpriced and not worth it.. Tell her to try chrome by Bperfect far easier on the pocket and alot nicer on too.. full coverage without the cake.

whatsmyname123 · 31/01/2024 05:55

I LOVE this foundation, the best one I've ever used. It lasts me months and the bottle is usually full.
A cheaper alternative I use is w7 legend, it doesn't last as long but its like a fiver and helpful when I can't afford £40 on a foundation.

AnglepoisePond · 31/01/2024 06:13

Sounds as if she bought a tester?

Mamabear487 · 31/01/2024 06:25

I use it daily about 3/4 pumps. You can buy the pump for it. It lasts me around 5-6 weeks

MCOut · 31/01/2024 06:45

The bottle is usually full, if you get a pump it lasts a good while. Take the bottle back, it might just be that there was a problem with it. Personally I think the other EL foundations are better though, DW looks great on my mum, but for some reason it makes me look like a zombie.

specialk9 · 31/01/2024 06:48

I have used this foundation for 26 years. I NEVER knew there was a pump for it 🤣

HungryForSnacks · 31/01/2024 06:59

The EL brand pump broke for me, but this Amazon version has been amazing. Plus it comes with a lid so you can still travel with it.

Same I'm off to buy the pump Grin

Packetofcrispsplease · 31/01/2024 09:08

Oh no 😟 I’d take that back to wherever she bought it from .
It ought to be almost full and will last ages as it’s really full coverage .
You only need the tiniest amount .
I got it having heard amazing things about it but didn’t like how it looked on me at all .
I gave it to my oldest daughter who has similar skin tone

The bottle is full when new. You squeeze and a drop starts to come out.

The standard Double Wear comes in a glass bottle. The one that comes in a squeezy tube is Double Wear Maximum Cover, which is really meant for covering scars, birthmarks, melasma etc rather than as a daily foundation. I have both!
