Wearing white

I've got two things, "ecru" dungarees and a "parchment" denim pinafore, basically two versions of a creamy sort of white. I love them, they suit me, I'm going to wear them. But I have the fear. I keep telling myself to just accept the fact that they'll get marked. I don't have children, but I do travel by public transport and, you know, eat and drink. I used to have a coat this colour but didn't eat and drink in it. Any tips?

I should add that I've worn the dungarees a couple of times last summer but only for meals out. I'm trying to psych myself up to wearing them at other times.

Just go for it.
Yes they will get dirty but clothes are for wearing.
I love white/cream.

TheDandyLion · 27/01/2024 18:11

Just wear them. Use Vanish and/or Daz in the washing machine.

ApolloandDaphne · 27/01/2024 18:14

They will wash. Just wear them.

Just wear them - they don’t get particularly dirty unless you’re walking in muddy puddles.

I love shades of white/cream/ecru and wear it a lot - it’s unusual for them to get marked

I love the look but am too messy myself. Gerri Halliwell-Horner always wears white and looks amazing, despite the horsey lifestyle and young child, but I am guessing she has a housekeeper etc.

I was scared of white for years as I don’t suit it and it gets dirty. Got a nice white vest top to wear with white skinny tight jeans and a slight tan. And it looks nice! Never thought I’d say that. Hardly marked either.

I always think white/cream/ ivory clothes look incredibly glamorous, especially in winter.

For a Christmas do last year, I wore a winter white midi pencil skirt with a River Island winter white jumper that was embellished with pearls. I had loads of compliments, and felt like a million dollars!

I was extremely careful when I was eating the meal though😄

I tell myself that as you very rarely notice stains on other people’s white clothes, they’re one of those things that are only noticeable to the owner. Plus washing machines and detergents are a lot better than they used to be.

Mairzydotes · 27/01/2024 20:51

Can you choose food / drinks that won't stain when wearing them? Or cover your clothes with your jacket or dressing gown while eating? Or a tea towel?
I never wear my out clothes in the house. Just put them on before you go out

Precipice · 27/01/2024 20:57

How often do you spill something or splash yourself while eating, really? Probably not that often.

I need to summon up the courage to iron and wear my frilly white Kitri shirt/blouse. It is lovely though.

dudsville · 27/01/2024 21:42

This is the straight talk i needed! You're right, i never spill things.
