Anyone still buying Hush??

I remember a few years ago when we had a constant thread re Hush clothing - thinking Nana Jumper, Stella star jumper, star jeans, Tara dress.

I stopped buying Hush to some extent when it subsequently arrived in our local John Lewis as loved wearing clothes that everyone else wasn’t iykwim.

But despite this I still find most of my older and better wearing clothes especially pj’s are from Hush, in fact this evening I’m wearing and older pair of PJ’s with a grey hush Nana jumper ( very well worn) on top.

From their sale this last week I’ve actually ordered some Hoff trainers , a velvet jumpsuit, a cardigan and chunky knit jumper. All of which I’ve kept , which has to some extent made me fall in love with Hush clothing all over again.

Does anyone else still buy much from them?

I still buy a few things most seasons. I’ve given up on their knitwear as the quality has gone downhill and for the money I’d rather buy Sezane, but their skirts really suit my shape and wear well.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/01/2024 22:28

I hadn’t in years - I got fed up of knitwear bobbling and being generally crap - but did actually get some conker brown wide leg cords a few months back which are fab. I think instagram served me an ad at just the right moment! I didn’t look at the rest of the site when I bought them though. I am also currently burning a Hush candle I got in the John Lewis sale (massively reduced, maybe they are stopping doing them?) which is very nice indeed.

neveradullmoment99 · 24/01/2024 22:33

Was a regular from the old thread. Loved their clothes a few years ago. It wasn't the lack of quality for me that stopped me buying but the sameness of it all.
I've found I'm back to liking it again recently. Sadly, post menopause, I find some styles aren't the best but I do love their live styling conversations and have been j spires to try some of their lovely bias and a few knitwear items.

Nearlyadoctor · 25/01/2024 06:18

@neveradullmoment99 - Hi 👋 I recognise your user name from the original threads.

I find a lot of the new styles are very long / baggy whereas they used to have a bit more shape which I liked. Hence loving the jumpsuit I’ve just bought. The baggier dresses etc are a bit too grunge for me ( probably showing my age using that word)

I often look but I'm not keen on a lot of the prints or fabrics. Having said that, I did get a nice blouse recently and I still love my ancient Tara or Tina (can't remember) dress. I'd love another one in a different colour but I don't think they do that style anymore.

NewYearTimeToChange · 25/01/2024 07:07

I loved that thread and bought a lot of Hush stuff on the back of it though mostly on EBay at the time. It was very samey after a while though and I bought less and less. Currently selling some very old bits on Vinted as they’re just taking up room and are never worn. Still have several items that I adore though and will wear till they fall apart. The last couple of years nothing much has appealed sadly, sizing changed and fabrics just got more and more synthetic. I haven’t found a new label that I love and just get bits as I need now rather than because I fall in love with them. At one point almost everything I wore had stars on it.

Nearlyadoctor · 25/01/2024 07:33

@WhereAreWeNow - They did both Tara and Tina dresses, the Tara was a jersey fabric and the Tina slightly longer and knitted.

WhereAreWeNow · 25/01/2024 07:35

@Nearlyadoctor it's the knitted one I've got (but it's quite short). It's probably the item of clothing I've got the most wear out of ever! I should really get another one. It's so easy and flattering.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 25/01/2024 07:41

I think it's one of those brands like Boden that had a very distinctive look which became really popular for a while. Then people get sick of the same look, others brands copy it etc (like stars on everything) so they try to evolve so they still have an edge but into what?

Just looked online for first time in ages and none of the looks are making me lust for them like they used to. That said the slim crew t shirts are still my go-to and have lasted, and I bought a new pair of Monaco trousers last year when my old ones finally gave up.

Nearlyadoctor · 25/01/2024 08:02

@WhereAreWeNow - mines a dark grey and I nearly got rid last year but had a change of heart at the last moment 😃

I used to love them, I’d buy several pieces each season.

Recently had another look and it’s all a bit boxy slouchy casual for me, so many baggy sweatshirts in odd colours. Their current dresses are unwearable for me and no nice tops.

I do like their wide legged jeans and I bought a nice cardigan in the sale but I no longer get the ‘ooh, that’s nice, add to basket’ feeling.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 25/01/2024 08:04

The only things I’ve ever bought from them are sweatshirts and T-shirts and a long skirt in a sample sale (with a sweatshirt). Quite good quality.

WarmWinterSun · 25/01/2024 08:31

I shopped with Hush like crazy then stopped completely a couple of years ago. My Hush jumpers haven't lasted and their new styles are way too baggy. I drown in them. I have replaced my love for Hush with Me&EM.

MsDastardley · 25/01/2024 08:45

I only buy the odd thing from them now. I like their jersey pyjamas, but avoid anything with a foil print as it wears off quickly. I have more disposable income now so am able to spend more on other brands that I like, including quite a few I’ve been introduced to here.

I had a big clear out recently and I was surprised that resale price for Hush on eBay was really good, much better than I expected

Athena51 · 25/01/2024 08:45

I bought a coat in the sale and it's lovely, looks good and nice quality but it was much cheaper than it currently is! I've won it quite a lot and think it will last well.

I was never big into Hush but bought a few sweatshirts, all gave way at the same place on the cuffs, I have one jersey midi dress I adore which is too tight atm 😕.
I bought a lightly quilted coat in this sale but didn’t like the fabric and a top which was too big, couldn’t be bothered to order anything else. It is a look and I suppose people have moved on.

That is a very lovely coat @Athena51 but not my colour.

WarmWinterSun · 25/01/2024 09:04

@Athena51

I'm afraid that coat is a perfect illustration of why I can't shop at Hush anymore. I would drown in that. It seems a strange business choice for them to focus on styles for taller women given the average woman is not very tall.

Wictc · 25/01/2024 09:09

I found the quality went downhill. Lots of bobbles, cheap material. Also the style changed and things seem more Boden like, which I’m not a fan of.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 25/01/2024 09:13

I've bought a few things in the sale and still buy some full price stuff. Got a couple of absolute bargain jackets. Most of my sweatshirts which I wear to WFH in are Hush. Maybe I was late to the party but I love the brand.

@WarmWinterSun I totally get that, I'm pretty tall and it is quite long on me. I sized down so that it didn't swamp me!

MrsMitford3 · 25/01/2024 09:18

I was on those old threads too-

Still love my boyfriend jeans but I agree with a PP in that I used to be unable to resist and put lots in my basket-now I have to actively try and find something I like.

I have sweatshirts I still wear but somehow doesn't seem as special anymore.

One of my DS's made a jokey comment about it being like shopping at the GAP for mum's and that stung a bit 😂

@Countmeout I love a bit of charcoal grey Smile

Laska2Meryls · 25/01/2024 09:24

I also used to be on the old Hush thread and still have several pieces from them which I regularly wear and just seem to go in and on. Jeans, joggers wide tops , trainers and PJs especially . I stopped buying Hush because it became quite same-y and I did think the quality had gone down. Also I discovered Toast ( an extremely bad move financially! ) .

But also my lifestyle changed from working in an office every day, -Hush were good for the sort of smart casual clothes I needed for that environment- , to giving up work just before Covid and now I now rarely wear a dress or skirt or the sort of workwear / going out afterwards top they are so good at .

However recently I have bought some of the Hush ' basic type) leisurewear again, The Rachel top and Aimee wide legs, plus a couple more of my favourite Meryl jumpers!! ( See user name 🤣) and really think that they are as good as the old versions .

Ah me too although I try to buy in their sale. Much better quality!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 25/01/2024 09:31

Only ever in sales and I've had some great dresses from there over the last few years.

But I do think if your paying full it's very over priced
