Morning! I'm starting a new thread before I go to work as it may get filled before this evening.

Although, Alondra, I loved some of her working royal style. The bespoke Givenchy, Dior and Stella McCartney, the bright yellow shift dress, the silk blouses with leather pencil skirts - a lot was really chic and stylish.

She wore Givenchy and Dior but for me, something wasn't quite right. She still wore the same patterns as the BRF style of dressing. It's not the brand or expensive designers, it was the style. She's back to wear what she wants without being constrained by her royal status. And it shows.

Maireas · 09/03/2024 11:53

No, I would disagree. I think a lot of the time as a working royal she looked great - I've given some examples above. Some of the outfits were gorgeous. Most of them on the Australia Pacific tour included. I do think she does the casual dressing really well, though, and I liked most of the winter wear at Whister recently.

Up until she got visibly pregnant I thought Meghan’s wardrobe was great - it was so much more modern than the usual British royal ensembles and reminded me more of Euro royals like Letizia and Mary. She had some really good looks for the Ireland and Australia tours, and of course the green leather skirt and shirt.

I think she struggled with dressing for pregnancy and post-pregnancy, though I did love the blue sequinned dress she wore to the variety performance while heavily pregnant.

Alondra · 09/03/2024 12:03

We'll have to agree to disagree, Maireas. I don't remember Meghan wearing an outfit that wow me in those 2 years. She's worn plenty of outfits since, that are stunning, cheaper and just her style.

KillingMeDeftIy · 09/03/2024 12:03

I would say more hits than misses here

I would agree.

Majority of misses and only one hit for me - the Stella McCartney's post wedding dress. IMO, this dress was her real style, the rest are a mix match trying to adapt her style to a royal status.

smilesy · 09/03/2024 14:12

I think Meghan has got stuck in the “stealth wealth” range of creams, greiges, browns etc and not all of them suit her. I think she looks great in strong colours. I loves the blue dress in the famous “rain” photo. I also think she looks great in casual wear. A lot of the evening clothes she wears these days don’t seem to fit properly and need an iron. I agree with @Maireas that she looked more together in her working royal days

Maireas · 09/03/2024 14:15

I don't necessarily think she looked more together, it's just that she was dressing for a different purpose. I really liked her style then, and pretty much like it now.

I don’t like that shirt dress thing though. It looks like it’s a victim of a colour run in the wash and it is really shapeless. 🤷‍♀️

Maireas · 09/03/2024 14:27

Which one is that, Smilesy? I've not been keen on the baggy trews, but then haven't liked them on Mary or Max, either.

I remember from the SUITS days when Meghan had Tig her style was sure footed and lovely.

I loved SUITS btw

themessygarden · 09/03/2024 15:55

I thought she dressed her best when Jessica Mulroney was styling her.

KillingMeDeftIy · 09/03/2024 15:58

Here’s our birthday queen looking casual at the Danish Warmblooded Stallion competition, which is, sadly, just a horse show.

But speaking of Danish stallions, Fred apparently made another under the radar trip to Spain recently 🙄

Sadly a horse show 😂
Mary looks good - love the jacket and shirt.
Are they horseshoe jeans?

KillingMeDeftIy · 09/03/2024 16:25

Oh god, I hope not. They make the wearer look like they’ve got rickets!

Sorry, I meant the shirt and skirt she wore the other night. I just think the colour is really meh and it looks untidy

As for horeshoe jeans, they are certainly a choice 😆

Maireas · 09/03/2024 16:34

They are quite the thing, though. I'm not going to embrace that trend!

Nor am I. I do think attempts to re invent jeans in extreme styles are doomed to be a limited success 😆

Maireas · 09/03/2024 17:09

Thanks, Smilesy! Great article. I wouldn't have recognised Princess Alexandra - her outfit is fab! Kate's jeans are sonewhat low slung....

KillingMeDeftIy · 09/03/2024 17:25

Thanks to the way fashion waxes and wanes, Diana’s 80s and 90s jeans look more modern than Kate’s mid-00s low-riders! Still, I’m sure those will come around again soon enough.
