Outfit for cold restaurant

Spinning101 · 23/01/2024 18:31

Its my birthday coming up soon & im going out for dinner with DH but the restaurant we are going to can be a little chilly.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to wear ? I usually wear blouses with a bit of embellishment or a pattern but it’s definitely not warm enough for that.

My jumpers are too casual for a nice meal out, mainly stripey or plain polonecks

Wear thermals underneath and a cardigan over the top,or a wrap.

M&S do fab long sleeved thermal tops and thin leggings

MillicentTheMagnificent · 23/01/2024 18:37

Maybe a thin, knit dress?

Seaside3 · 23/01/2024 21:15

A lovely pashmina type scarf. I find keeping your décolletage coveted keeps you warmer, and if your face gets flush pop ot over your lap.

And wine. Wine always warms.

I second thermals. I often wear tights/leggings under trousers and a thin thermal top under a nice blouse. And, if my shoes allow, double socks.

You can't eat wearing a pashminaaaaa...or at least, I couldn't. I'm a slitter though.
Plus they're fussy and need rearranged.

mdinbc · 23/01/2024 21:22

I second a sweater dress! I have a nice one I wore out for DH's birthday, with tights and tall boots.

Or do you have a nice fine knit cardigan?

pictoosh · 23/01/2024 21:22

I'd wear a stylish cardi and a lightweight and lovely scarf that could be easily tucked into it. Long boots.

Seaside3 · 23/01/2024 21:26

@pictoosh slitter?

TheOriginalFrench · 23/01/2024 21:51

But won’t your food all be cold before you’ve finished it? I’d be more concerned about that than my outfit? Shock

pictoosh · 24/01/2024 04:37

@pictoosh slitter?

Yes, I drop food on myself. A slitter.

Seaside3 · 24/01/2024 07:19

Huh. Never heard that term, @pictoosh

I'm.one too. So love me a scarf to catch it (then remove) or to pop on to hide spilt food. Kinda like a bib.

But, i stand by alcohol as the best way to warm up.

TheOGCCL · 24/01/2024 09:00

I’m always cold. Didn’t take my coat off the other day at lunch.

If you’re not looking for something new, have you got jewellery to jazz up a plain polo neck? You could tuck it in for extra smartness.

The fashionistas are obsessing over this sort of thing at the moment

Jacket over your blouse, or thermal under, or both. Don’t wear a pashmina, they’re dated enough for weddings, never mind going out for dinner.

lavendersorbet · 24/01/2024 09:58

A plain polo neck is chic and absolutely smart enough for a dinner out.

Leather skirt, tights and boots or denim.

Nice jewellery, hair, going out make up.

flipflopfly · 24/01/2024 10:09

I'd have to find a jacket or something, as I'd start off cold, and then a couple of glasses in, I'd be too hot. So, thermal vests and sweater dresses would be a no-go for me.
I have a gorgeous green velvet jacket, my go-to in these situations. Goes with jeans or a LBD. Have you got anything similar? John Lewis online seems to have a lot of similar on sale at the moment. Or a silk bomber something like this https://grana.com/en-gb/products/women-chinese-silk-bomber-jacket?variant=41698483404957
