Chanel trainers / designer trainers

Hi
I’m just wondering if anyone buys chanel trainers , even slightly lower designer trainers Dior , Celine etc ?
Are they worth it ? I have a few designer bags ( under 10) and I feel this year I want to try not to buy any bags and focus on something else luxury . I have one pair already but thinking of getting a couple more pairs but unsure due to I’m actually wanting to wear them so don’t think I’d re sell in future etc , I’m buying new /unworn but preloved so cost wise usually upto £800 rrp is over 1k I do keep eye on eBay for a bargain barely used but never seems to happen.

I have enough SLGS and I recently got a beautiful Burberry coat I just feel I want to move away from buying bags or at least limiting it to 1 or 2 a year.

if you don’t buy trainers what other luxury items do you own / want to buy ?

Surely the question of whether they are 'worth' it is completely subjective. To me, £800 for a pair of trainers seems ludicrous, but if you can afford it and want it, why not?

Exactly.

I would rather spend £50-80 on a pair of trainers from Asos or M and M direct or whatever and put the £800 towards a city break or some sort of holiday. But others would consider £50-80 a lot!

I have a pair of LV trainers that cost £755. They are a lovely all leather shoe and I do wear them in dry weather even for a weekend in London. Are they worth it? Most likely not, but I pay my bills, save and work hard and can afford to treat myself.

regularmumnotacoolmum · 22/01/2024 22:46

I realise I'm being hypocritical but I just don't feel like they're worth it anymore 😬 Chanel trainers are upwards of £750 nowadays and in fact I think some are even over the £1k mark I just don't feel like they are worthy of that price tag. When they were around the £500 mark, I'd buy lots but now I find myself putting them back, not because I can't afford them but because I just don't think they're good value. They don't last 'forever' and end up in a sorry state and need replacing. You can get some great deals on designer trainers on NAP or BV. I bought a gorgeous pair of classic ysl white flat trainers for £120 last month!

WaystarRoy · 22/01/2024 22:54

I treated myself to a pair of Gucci trainers in Paris a few years ago and I love them. They are super comfortable and look great. The cost per wear must be reasonable by now as I wear them so often and they always make me happy

granstable · 22/01/2024 22:58

What is the point? I can understand having custom made shoes hand made to fit so that your feet are comfortable and well supported, and paying loads for them, but designer brands?
Surely you only get satisfaction if others recognise them and envy you? Or do they last well and can they be re-soled etc.? I remember commenting on a friend's high heels and saying that they must get uncomfortable. She said that they were OK because they were Louboutin. I think she was expecting me to be impressed. Eh? Never heard of them (they have red soles, evidently).

AdoraBell · 22/01/2024 22:59

I like Chanel and Dior shoes and trainers but I won’t buy them. That’s because I have monstrous bunions and after a few wears all my footwear are misshaped.

Edited

If you don't know Louboutins then obviously you are going to think spending £800+ on shoes will not be worth it. Shoes are obv not your thing

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 22/01/2024 23:49

I have a pair of Louboutin Vieiras in black and a pair of Chanel CC patent cap sneakers in cream/black.

I love heels but given that I live in northern Canada, the snow and ice and -30 makes these a bit more practical.

Appleblum · 22/01/2024 23:56

If they make you happy then they're worth it. I have several pairs and wear them often and they're nice and comfortable. I don't 'baby' them though and don't care if they get dirty or worn out. My sil on the other hand is very particular when wearing her dior trainers and avoids wet spots, too crowded areas for fear of people stepping on her shoes, etc... I think that causes more stress than it's worth.

Watchthedoormat · 23/01/2024 00:03

I think most people presume such trainers are fake.

Not necessarily. A trainer enthusiast will be able to spot fakes very easily. It's all in the small details.

If you like them, can afford them and will get the wear out of them then jolly well but them! Life is too short for unsatisfactory trainers.

THisbackwithavengeance · 23/01/2024 06:39

Watchthedoormat · 23/01/2024 00:03

I think most people presume such trainers are fake.

Actually I agree but it does depend.

Someone shopping in posh London suburb/ naice South East town with polished designer look or working in high end job or doing school run in a high end 4x4 with personal plates then I would assume genuine.

Someone waiting for the bus in my Northern town then obviously fake.

It's all about context.

Waterfallsandrainbows · 23/01/2024 06:42

4x4 in London looks cheap and nasty which goes with their 1k fake looking trainers. Whether they’re in a Northern town waiting for a bus or in London that’s just geography.

Your snobbish perception is what is different not the fact 1k trainers whether they are fakes or not look cheap and nasty. You said it yourself.

UtterlyButterly2048 · 23/01/2024 08:05

Gosh. I’ve got a pair of LV trainers. And a 4x4. Which I sometimes take into London. I’ve also worn them to catch a bus in a Northern town. Didn’t realise that those things makes me look cheap and nasty and fake 🤣🤣🤣 ah well…..

Anyway op, I have to say I love the look of my trainers but I wouldn’t buy anymore.
They are not heavily branded, you would have to look closely to see what they are, but they are bloody heavy, they weigh an absolute ton and they are not very comfortable.

I’m quite liking Valentino stuff at the minute. Good quality, not heavily branded (some of it anyway) and last really well. I’ve got some wedges that I’ve had for 4 years and I wear all the time in the summer. They are still going strong and I love them.

Waterfallsandrainbows · 23/01/2024 08:20

I wear shoes and trainers that are manufactured to support and protect my feet.

All these older women you see with numerous health complaints from wearing 1k cheap manufactured designer trainers says it all.

I have never seen anyone blaming health complaints on designer trainers 😂😂😂

I have high end heels and flats for work, but on the trainer front I prefer classics like Nike (for exercise) or Converse (for casual). I think it’s important to go with a brand that’s good at the particular style of shoe you’re after.

lola8345 · 23/01/2024 11:54

I'd spend on a pair of lovely leather shoes or boots, trainers, not a chance. I'm not really a trainer lover though.

FayCarew · 23/01/2024 13:12

Trainers don't last that long and aren't really stylish
These ones are quite nice, but they don't really look like £1000 shoes
Trainers - Suede kidskin, burgundy — Fashion | CHANEL

These ones are quite unattractive
Trainers - Calfskin, fabric & strass , white & silver — Fashion | CHANEL

Those second ones look exactly like my son’s street dance trainers!

If you will get £1000 worth of enjoyment out of them and can afford them then they’re worth it.

No, not something I would ever consider because they're going to take way more of a battering than a handbag. Also, there's nothing remotely in the spirit of Chanel about trainers either.

I did very briefly consider a pair of Loewe trainers, but in the end, decided against them/had the realisation that mm perfectly content with sticking to Nike, Converse et all for trainers,
