Help Me Find Clothes for Second Trimester

Just turning 12 weeks and the bloat is unreal - can you help me find comfortable outfits that will accommodate bloating, I'm really struggling to find things that look nice whilst being comfortable. Also, pretty much none of my trousers fit any more so really need some new clothes. Obviously, I'm not showing yet as it's too early so maternity ranges don't really work yet for me.

I was size 6 pre-pregnancy, probably edging towards size 8 now - I'm slightly pear shaped and still have a waist (for now!). I'm 5'2", so petite sizes fit me best. Turning 30 next month so want something that still looks youthful.

Things that don't work for me at the moment:

  • high waisted trousers (which was my previous staple!)
  • tights (too tight around the waist but I'm not at the maternity tights stage yet)
  • anything tight around the waist

I'd love to wear dresses but as I'm struggling with tights and it's winter it's a bit of a conundrum. I've tried nylon stockings but they're not particularly comfortable and they roll down. But if anyone has recommendations for tights/long socks that stay up then I'm interested!

I've been wearing mostly dungarees for the last few weeks but I'd like to have something smarter to wear on occasion (and not battle with straps when I go to the loo!)

I used to live in high waisted trousers, mini skirts and mini dresses so I'm completely out of ideas 😩

Are you sure you can’t just get some maternity tights? I’m 14 weeks and have had to wear them for a couple of weeks now. I already have some from my first pregnancy - there are a couple of pairs where the waist is too stretched out, but mostly they’re fine! I also favour dresses and a loose jumper/shirt dress with the tights is working well for me atm.

@Dinosaurus86 I'll pick up a pair and see how I get on, but had a feeling that they'd probably just slide down as (aside from when I'm bloated) I don't have a bump. I guess there's no harm in buying them as I'll eventually need them!

Yes I’d give it a go! I’m trying to remember where I got mine - I think they may have been the 60 denier John Lewis maternity ones but not totally sure. Anyway, the good ones I’ve had have just sort of grown with the bump.

I agree maternity tights should be absolutely fine for you. The overbump bit is just super stretchy. I was wearing some of mine for months post-partum after I even needed to just cos I had them and they were absolutely fine even with no bump. Just wore them up high and/or rolled down some of the overbump band.

Amazing, I'll pick up a few pairs then! I'm so bored of living in dungarees and pyjamas 😂
