Oud

Could you please recommend a good perfume to smell to see if I like Oud generally? So one that represents "Oud" to you.

Look at Oud Attar. I got the sample set and worked out that spiced and sweet mixed together, smell the best on me. The samples last ages, by the way.

I get compliments every time I wear it.

Please be aware that some people are very sensitive to oud. If you have to wear it, please use it sparingly and not when in confined spaces.

Oh! Are they? I guess I just want to sniff it really so I can recognise it.

I wear velvet rose and oud by Jo malone, everyone comments on it. Damn shame the price these days is eye watering! The dupe of the same from essence vault is pretty good it just doesn’t last as long.

Honestly if you're just testing whether you like oud, start with something that isn't too heavy. Pure ouds can be a lot if you're not used to it.
I tried a few from LinBerlin recently — they have an oud collection and each one is a bit different. Ruby is their rose oud, that one's probably the easiest to start with because the rose softens it a lot. The Shadow is darker and more intense if you want the real oud experience. The Falcon is more of a classic Arabian style, and The Saphir is a lighter, cleaner take on oud.
For a first try I'd honestly go with Ruby or The Saphir, much easier to figure out if you actually enjoy the note without it being overwhelming.
