Help me find my wedding dress please!

Getting married this spring. Local registry office followed by a family meal. Very small handful of people attending 😊

I have absolutely no idea what kind of thing I want to wear 🙈😅

I’m plus sized (size 22) - really dislike my belly and top of arms. I am large chested so things with a very high neckline don’t really work, and It rather not be overly booby so nothing too low. Open to both full length and shorter styles. I don’t want a full on traditional wedding dress but would like to feel/look somewhat bridal 🤔 so I guess maybe ivory? Flexible budget for the right thing but I’m always open to bargains 😊

I have nobody to go for the wedding dress shopping experience with and would rather not go alone so I’m hoping you can all be my helpers and help me scour the met for the best options 😁😊

@FlatWhiteExtraHot The shape of the Ever Pretty one is lovely but I’m not keen on the leaf design!

The dresses seem very cheap - has anyone got experience of actually ordering from them? 😊

Shamelessly bumping the thread in the hope anyone can suggest some other options 🤞🏼😅

I've had evening dresses from ever pretty for my DD's, they were fine, just long so I hemmed them. They were really cheap, but a while ago.

Read the reviews on trust pilot, they are better than some of the online sellers but not absolute, they was the t's&c's carefully especially returning costs.

FreezyFord · 28/01/2024 08:47

This is very pretty. I might get the train bit taken up for the type of wedding you’re having, but it looks a lovely flattering shape.

FreezyFord · 28/01/2024 08:48

Oh! I just saw the back, no good as can’t wear a bra

Not just floral, they have loads of different styles

FreezyFord · 28/01/2024 17:59

Fairy goth mother have these too, which would allow for a bra!

Thank you all 😊 I’m loving looking at all these options! You are fab!!

@Revelwithacause Needle & Thread style is definitely what feels like the most “me” - which is weird as they’re very floral and girly and I’m really not 😅 But as a bride they feel like the most “me”.

I always said I’d never get married unless Oscar de la Renta personally handmade me a gown 😂😂 but an OdlR ball gown doesnt really feel appropriate for the local registry office and then local mid-afternoon meal 😂

Congratulations on your wedding!

You can honestly wear whatever you want - don't feel like you can't wear something because it doesn't feel appropriate. It's your day to wear whatever you'd like :)

I am the same size as you and I ended up wearing a Callista wedding dress that I found in a local wedding shop. Callista is good for plus size https://prettypearbride.com/plus-size-bridal-collection-crush-callista-bridal/

I also found a few dresses I really liked on Simply Be:

Good luck and let us know what you choose x

@Fofftwenty21 Thank you 😊 You’re definitely right but I’m a very self conscious person anyway and know I’d spend the afternoon meal feeling really uncomfortable being too overdressed.

Although, I am now considering just going all out and getting a dress for the service and photos and then a more casual dress for the meal after 😁

I have a few options arriving from ASOS today to have a first try on so we’ll see how that goes 🤞🏼😊

If you want an amazing experience for wedding shopping go to Kate Halfpenny in Euston Sq. SHE IS AMAZING. Her dresses are classy, stylish, and FLATTERING! Not cheap, but def worth a visit! She is plus size herself so she understands bodies. I worked with her briefly and she is the most incredible woman.

@MHamp Thanks 😊 I have seen lots of her designs and they are beautiful 😊 I’m at the opposite end of the UK unfortunately so no time for a visit!

Some of these are lovely if you want a shorter dress, bargains aswell. You can buy a petticoat in any colour you like to make the skirt puff out nicely

MHamp · 30/01/2024 16:44

If you can def go to a wedding dress shop, I wouldn't trust this big moment for online shopping (and I LOVE ONLINE SHOPPING!) but I think is super important to get the right fit and the stylist at the shop will help you with that.

JemimaPyjamas · 30/01/2024 18:11

I apologise if you've found your dress, or given ideas to what you'll like (and I am now posting something totally inappropriate) but I saw these the other day and thought they were lovely - some are more understated than others, and if you look at their Instagram some of the models / people are bigger than the usual size 10!

I too have a dislike of my upper arms and stomach so when I see something that might be a good disguiser of both, I remember. Even if I don't have the foggiest idea when I would possibly need a dress like it....

@MHamp Agree re Kate Halfpenny, but even if budget allowed I am pretty sure there wouldn't be the time - my friend wanted one from there and there was a minimum of 12 months lead time. It's a shame as they are beautiful and also dresses for women who are 'women-shaped.'

@Inyourwildestdreams ooh exciting let us know how you get on!

@Fofftwenty21 Not very successful unfortunately!

One fitted really nicely at the bust but was beaded and the design really emphasised my belly 😅

The second was more flattering at the belly but done nothing for my chest 😅

So I’m still on the hunt!! A few things that I’ve come realise when hunting:

  • I don’t love the 50s style dresses.
  • I would like sleeves of some kind but both that I tried on had quite floaty sleeves and made me feel a bit more bulky across the shoulders than I’d like.
