Trying to identify a scent!

I know I should stop and ask the next person that smells of it, but I always seem to be in a massive hurry whenever they walk past. I've been promising myself 'Next time!' for ages.

For the last couple of years I've kept smelling a perfume? fabric conditioner? on other people, almost every time I go out. It smells like incredibly wonderful dryer sheets, a hug, safety, comfort. It's floral, maybe with musk. It smells more like a fantastic laundry product than a perfume, but it projects a long way.

I live in London. The popular scents here in the last year or two have been Baccarat Rouge 540; Santal 33; YSL Libre. It's none of them. Neither is it Jovan White Musk, Ariana Grande Cloud, anything by Sol de Janeiro, or Comfort Spring Awakening.

Mumsnet please help me. Do you get stopped and asked what fabric conditioner you use? Is it a fabric conditioner or a perfume with that sort of scent to it? I smell it so often that I feel like everyone's heard of it except me! Happy to hear all your recommendations :)

I use these and always seem to get compliments on my clothes smelling nice! When DD was in hospital for surgery a pair of nurses walked in and asked what the gorgeous smell in her room was.. it was a freshly washed blanket from home 😆

Marks and Spencer do really nice washing liquid and fabric conditioner. I'm obsessed with it.

There is company that do specific perfume scented fabric conditioners too. They have a sample pack of all the scents. I keep meaning to order it!

A few years back Marks did a gorgeous Vanilla scented fabric conditioner, I think it was called Vanilla Cloud or similar.
They discontinued it. ☹️

White linen by Estée Lauder? It has a lovely warm clean linen cupboard with slightly floral scent.
Could be detergent/ fabric conditioner.
I use the same stuff to wash clothes as dh. His clothes always smell much nicer...he just has a naturally nice scent.

@LadyEloise1 Method used to do a laundry soap called Fresh Air that used to make everyone swoon if they came over on a laundry day. It was perfect and gorgeous, so of course it was discontinued 😂I'm sorry your Vanilla Cloud went the same way!

The Ghost perfume has a clean , powdery smell . It's lovely on other people but smells horrible on me.

@Mairzydotes The description I've just read for Ghost sounds about right! Thank you! I'm sorry it doesn't smell the same on you. Now I wonder if I'll finally track down this mystery fragrance only to find it smells awful on me 😂I'll check out Ghost: thank you 🙏

On my train journey to work, sometimes someone gets on the train and they don't smell of perfume but have a wonderful all over aroma . I often wonder how this is achieved- is it that they use a body spray?

I wear clean reserve skin a lot which smells like me but better
Add that to a slightly OTT showering routine and clean washing and I just smell nice but not of perfume as such

I only ever smell choking amounts of BR540 and dupes on my commute. <eye roll>

Asevi…. Try the Spanish fabric conditioners and the washing stuff , don’t have to go to Spain , sell it in uk 🇬🇧. Or tallow and ash

What is BR540 @ForForToo ?

BR540 is baccarat rouge 540 very expensive perfume but lots of dupes I personally would only wear the original as it lasts forever

I wear original chloe. Always get asked what it is. Love it. Reminds me of the 80's too ☺️

I love and have worn it for years black orchid by Tom ford, lasts forever. 😁
