what hair makes you look younger rather than older?

I like to have long hair and think a fringe is good to hide my wrinkles :) But what cut helps one look youthful?

As per my other thread, people think I'm about 60 rather than my late 40s.

My hair is currently quite red-red and I thought it's quite a youthful colour, but maybe not going on people's assumptions. :/ Should I have it lighter/darker (too dark makes me look pale, and I don't like brown)

My hair is maybe usually a bit less flat looking at the sides than this- it's a bit overconditioned today. But I took so many pics I CBA taking another one lol. I took many to look my least-hideous without much makeup while still looking at all representative.

Hope you can help.

I can't manage much styling, it doesn't happen. A bit of elnet is as far as it goes.

Hope you can help.

Pic hopefully to follow

I don't think many/ any men actually care about the length of a woman's hair! It's the whole package. If your hair style suits you is important than length imo

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/01/2024 21:58

I have blonde curls and I know that can make me look younger than I am.

I think as we age we need a lighter colour as our skin tone changes. Your hair looks a decent weight, I would say go on an app and try some different colours and styles. You could add a wave to your hair and lose the fringe, try a side parting.

Blondehairgonewild · 16/01/2024 21:59

Yeah I’m sorry but you do look older than you are. I would have said late 50s early 60s.
I know you don’t seem to want it shorter but I do think a few inches off and a warm brown with a wave would look lovely

FaiIureToLunch · 16/01/2024 22:01

Your hair colour is too harsh - what’s your natural colour?

I’m a fan of the fringe

however like you, I have a fairly long face and find that when my hair goes past my shoulders it just accentuates it, so these days goodbye fringe 😭😭😭

porridgeisbae · 16/01/2024 22:02

I cut 2 inches or so off it recently and really regret it. It was the longest it's ever been as an adult because I ate more salmon etc.

Thanks for the tips all.

I'm a natural red head with hair that is pretty white now. I use this Nice and Easy shade. Because my now natural is so very light, this comes up as a pretty natural red. Always best after a couple of washes up til around 5 weeks (when the roots start showing). I think it would be worth a try with your colouring. You don't look 60s but I think the shade you have is too dark if your hair is now naturally very light

Abitlosttoday · 16/01/2024 22:05

You absolutely do not look 60! I like your hair. I agree curtain bangs would be a nice modern update. The colour suits you and maybe an inch off to thicken it up. Waves for a fancy night? Who said you look 60? A teenager maybe?! They know nothing.

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 16/01/2024 22:10

Your hair is pulling your face down. It isn’t flattering you at all. I’m not sure many could pull off the colour and cut. It is aging (but not by twenty years!).

I think brown is plain.
Someone needs to tell Penelope Cruz and Winona Ryder!

I think shorter is less feminine and unenticing to men.
Do you really believe that? That’s so sad. You said that you are single. Maybe shorter hair is worth a try (if that’s what you want)?

Amara123 · 16/01/2024 22:14

You are lovely and have really good hair and skin, a great canvas.

Your hair colour at the moment is too harsh, that colour red is really dated now. You have plenty of hair but the current style drags you down.

I think what would be really good is a makeup session where you get an overview of products and techniques. I'm very similar in age to you and have been thinking that might be the best way to "update" as I think I'm still applying makeup the same way I did when I was 25!

saturnspinkhoop · 16/01/2024 22:14

I’m going to be blunt… you don’t look anywhere near 60, but your hair is ageing you and I think a different style could suit you more. I would get rid of the red and try some different tones as others have suggested. I would also go shorter and with more volume at the sides. You have lovely eyes and skin, OP.

DreadPirateRobots · 16/01/2024 22:17

I agree with PP that a softer, less blunt cut and a more natural colour would help. The red and the blunt fringe are quite harsh on you.

I would go to e.g. the Bobbi Brown counter in JL and get them to refresh your makeup for you.

AgathaX · 16/01/2024 22:21

You don't look 60. You have good skin and beautiful eyes. Your hair is very harsh for your face though. Tone the colour down to something more natural, add some layers and grow the fringe out some. A longer, looser looking fringe would be much more flattering.
You mention eye bags. I can't see them on your photo. If they are troubling you though, and you can afford tear trough filters then go for a consultation and get them done by someone reputable. I have mine done and they make a huge difference.

BerryBlu · 16/01/2024 22:21

Really long bangs sweeping to the side and wavy rather than straight will look more youthful IMO! Also, don't underline your eyes like that, it's very old fashioned now. Maybe use a warmer shade on the under eyes too, lighter than skin is not as brightening as you think and has a greying effect. Sorry for The Sun link but quick find to explain my point

Everything else looks great, beautiful skin and face structure! Model in pic has similar face features.

PS. Any man who only goes for long hair is not worth the breath it takes to tell him to fuck off. I've had very short hair for fifteen years and I have not been short of unwanted attention.

wildlifeWalker · 16/01/2024 22:23

I think you really suit the red. Maybe add some layers? You can just dry with a round brush.

Moanycowbag · 16/01/2024 22:24

I think the fringe is far too heavy and blunt and it screams that you are trying to hide your forehead so therefore ages you, I would embrace the grey. and go natural, I have had my natural grey for over 10 years now and your natural colour usually suits far better than a one dimensional all over colour, I think you would look fabulous with a choppy bob and would grow your fringe out.

porridgeisbae · 16/01/2024 22:27

I'm not :)

You have similar face shape to SJP and Julia Roberts.

I think you can see how their face looks fuller and softer without bangs. Bangs lengthen their faces.

Also long hair that isn't flattering isn't feminine imo. Halle Berry looks better with short hair and she is a major sex symbol. As was Marilyn Monroe, and even 90's Winona Ryder. Iconic, sexy, and feminine.

wildlifeWalker · 16/01/2024 22:28

Ps I think the fringe suits you. You have quite a long face so a fringe is good!
You definitely do not look 60!

@wildlifeWalker Ooh how did you do that, add a cut to my face? Is it your own work, or is it a programme I can use online to try stuff?

Edited

It's just an app I've downloaded. That is one of the freebie styles. You can change the colour and move the hair about a bit too!
It's called Hairstyle Lite

Maddy70 · 16/01/2024 22:31

Unnatural colours are aging so i would go for a browner shade. It needs to be shorter with more style and movements I think

gurnerandpooch · 16/01/2024 22:32

I'm 52 soon and I had a full fringe cut and for a wolf cut - knocked years off me . I also went from a solid dark brown to a much lighter blonde with more tone and variation .
It hides the greys .
Shorter styles don't suit me because I have quite a round face though I do have decent cheekbones.

Josette77 · 16/01/2024 22:32

I think if you want to keep it that colour you'll need to warm up your makeup. Pinks and softer colours to brighten your face.
