Help! I need a new haircut...

I'm 45, tired, work full time from home, run around after small child and live rurally. I need some help.

Hair is fine, long, greying. I wash, dry naturally and tie it back most days. As I'm aging I'm starting to think I need a revamp - BUT is has to be extremely low maintenance. I do not have the time, energy of skills to do much.

Any ideas??!

Would you consider going short short. A friend - similar age and maintenance requirements- had hers cut into a very short pixie and she looks incredible. I wish I had the guts but I suspect I’d look like a potato

I dear I'd end up on the potato side of things too!

A choppy lob

DuchessOfSausage · 16/01/2024 18:33

Don't get a bob or a lob. It will need regular trimming and daily styling.
I'd just get a good trim. Your hair looks nice in the photo.

Personally, I would have it cut to thicken it up a bit and then do something interesting with the colour

You could try a lob. Will you be going to a salon or would a home hairdresser visit you? Lobs can look good.

BaleOfHay · 16/01/2024 18:46

It could definitely do with looking thicker and swishier. At the very least it needs a few inches off. I like the idea of a lob, but the upkeep is worrying (normally my husband cuts it! I might have to find a hairdresser....) can't be arsed with colour, I'd never maintain it. That falls into my 'when I win the lottery' dreams!

100% this!
I went for the lob from having long hair as I stupidly thought would save time drying and straightening. Looks so frumpy if I don’t have the time to style it. Big regrets!
get some parted curtain bangs (as the Americans say!) if you want a revamp.

Absolutely no help but I’m following. I have slightly shorter one length hair . Going grey . Add to this the roots grow wavy after I lost a load of hair from illness.
I don’t want to dye it.

I did get a fringe a couple of years back but grew it out , it was wispy by my choice but I didn’t love it enough to keep it.

I’m going to try a shoulder skimming cut and think about longer layered fringe maybe.
