Is this appropriate for a funeral?

This is for my aunts funeral, i am very sad about her passing as she was a wonderful woman.

I already have this dress as I purchased it for job interviews, but all my other clothes are very colourful and I can't really afford to purchase anything else. My sister says it isn't appropriate and I need something fully black. I was planning to wear it with black tights and a black coat and some heels.

For reference I had to give up work recently with serious health problems so money is very tight but I am of course willing to spend what I have given the circumstances.

I really struggle with my mental health and there's a history of my sister making me feel shit. Is this OK or am I better off with just black trousers and a black top?

That's an absolutely lovely dress for a funeral. Ignore your sister.

Lostsadandconfused · 15/01/2024 01:42

It's fine and completely appropriate.

On the other hand, wear something you know your Aunt would have liked.

CobraChicken · 15/01/2024 01:43

Completely appropriate. Your sister is wrong.

CuteCillian · 15/01/2024 01:43

It is very appropriate for a funeral. Sorry you have lost your Auntie.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 15/01/2024 01:45

Completely appropriate and very reverent. Sorry for your loss.

It’s absolutely appropriate OP, ignore your sister. I’m very sorry to hear about your aunt.

Perfect, IMO.

Geppili · 15/01/2024 01:49

Ignore your sister. It is a beautiful dress and completely appropriate. So sorry for your loss.

Sunnyeverday · 15/01/2024 02:07

Absolutely gorgeous! Although in my part of the world it's too dark for anyone over 60yrs.

FictionalCharacter · 15/01/2024 02:10

It’s perfect. It isn’t expected these days to wear 100% black and that dress is lovely.

Ambivax · 15/01/2024 02:12

I’ve sadly been to several pretty formal/traditional funerals and that dress is more than appropriate- ignore your sister.
I’m so sorry about your aunt Flowers

TheLadyIsAVamp · 15/01/2024 02:12

Thanks everyone, I think I will just wear it. I have recently gone from a size 22/24 to a 10/12 so the amount of clothes I have that fit are a bit limited and I'm still very unsure of what looks acceptable on me.

The days of all black for a funeral have been over for ages and wearing colour is completely appropriate. Funerals are a celebration of someone's life. Your sister is ridiculous.

MariaVT65 · 15/01/2024 02:21

Sorry for your loss 💐

That is lovely.

Also, I live streamed a family funeral this week as I wasn’t able to make it and everyone just sat in their coats during the service anyway.
