Never wear black does anyone else dress in bright colours only?

maybe we could turn this into a thread of where we get our coloured clothes/outfit inspiration

people always call me the colourful lady and I’ve never seen anyone who really dresses like me (not around here anyway)

I love wearing colour, but not just brights. I look best in rich, deep colours. My favourite buy this season has been a chocolate brown cashmere roll neck.

I do have a couple of really bright dresses from Collectif which I love. Cobalt blue is my best colour but it’s not really in fashion.

I’ve moved away from strong patterns (maybe I’ll move back for summer.) but am slightly obsessed with getting one of theee dresses as my new Best Frock: https://www.jasperconran.com/collections/dresses/products/blythe-full-skirt-shirt-dress-1?variant=44008372207850

Blythe Full Skirt Shirt Dress

The signature Blythe shirt dress is a timeless style beautifully constructed in a plain weave cotton blend fabric, which is now available in two lengths. This fit and flare midi dress features a half elasticated waist for comfort and fit, side pockets...

Now that is beautiful

I love colour and prints too. When I go into a shop, it’s colours that draw me; the style and type of item is secondary.

But I don’t really suit brights. Muted, cool colours look best on me - cornflower blue, teal, dusty pink. I avoid black, navy and grey as they seem utterly dull to me (I know they are actually far more stylish!)

I'm 41 with dark skin, hair and eyes. I love wearing colour! Just picked up this dress from Scamp and Dude. I love their prints. And I also get a lot of clothes from Sugarhill.

I have that dress, it’s fab❤️

Also bought a few more while the sale was on, they are great!

I have a coat the same colour as the green dress and always love wearing it

Not sure about cobalt blue not being in...I have just missed buying one from Ted Baker 😞

What did everyone wear today? I wore my run and fly rainbow pinafore pink tights leopard converse green long sleeved top and my boden paintbox raincoat

Sugarhill Brighton jumper with a cow on.

Joe Browns thigh length vertical striped knitted (pink, white, blue) hoodie jumper, with red leggings and a stretch lycra black just above my knee skirt

When I went out today with the grandchildren, my outer wear was a 70s-style Jersey zip knee-length hoodie in deep, bright sea blue and black shoes with metal tips on the topside of the shoes (punk style)

I wore this very weather inappropriate dress today, but I didn't have much need to be outside so it was fine!

I wore a bright orange cashmere jumper with jeans. I’ve linked to a similar colour but the style of mine is boxier. I like simple clothes, hardly ever wear patterns (although I love patterned dresses in the summer). I just love rich, deep colours https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-cashmere-crew-neck-jumper/p110617816

I've just bought this^^

And...

I think the gudrun sjoden one might be a little bit marmite (or just universally hated apart from by me 😂).

I'm sick to death of neutrals and fading into the background. I also had one of those online colour analysis things online and apparently am a warm spring, so do suit brighter colours.

I like it because it’s different

pale or light colours make me look washed out and everyone always says to me they never suit me .

my style is either 1950s or kidcore (didn’t know what that was until my 12 year old niece told me 😂) she says I’m iconic 🥰😂

I love this https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/amy-cotton-midi-shirt-dress-multi-bloomsbury-pop/sty-d0846-wde

bit boden sizing is a bit off I’m 5ft6 and I think this would swamp me

I have rediscovered Benetton for colourful clothing!

Have also been stocking up on M&S merino crewneck jumpers and Uniqlo merino polonecks in their sale.

MYSTERIOUSGIRL2024 · 07/02/2024 21:29

I am so used to wearing black or grey & I'm fed up with not being adventurous in trying out more colourful clothes rather than the drab look. Funnily I got married in a red wedding dress with red ties for the men to match so it's probably the only time I was colourful. It's mt 50th coming up soon & think that's why I want a new me! I'm not old yet so why not make the most of this one life as are given & taken up the opportunities whilst I'm young enough to enjoy it!

macaroonsandgin · 07/02/2024 21:36

@Garlicnaan fellow light spring here, what are your go to daytime colours?? I always find it a struggle to find stuff in the shops with this colour palette that doesn’t make me look totally washed out 🤷‍♀️

Yeah it's tricky. I'm not a slave to it tbh.

I wear a lot of colour (mint green, coral, warm lilac, pink, orange, warm yellow), but also a fair bit of taupe / beige (but has to be right shade), mid-light denim, off white, washed black. I spend a lot of time finding clothes in my style and colours! Often pair brighter colours with more neutral ones. Today I'm wearing mid bright blue denim bottoms with a warm mint green top. It's quite a bright colour. I find a bit of fake tan, lippy and lightening my hair helps a lot with wearing my supposed best colours.

I know a dark slate grey blue is meant to be a good colour but often navy is quite harsh, and I don't like navy for going out stuff so tend to wear grey or washed black if not a metallic.

I have seen quite a few suitable colours in Oliver Bonas this season. It's not somewhere I'd shop usually as the styles aren't very me, but they might be your thing!
