I'm on the Beauty Product buying ban and am trying to work through all those excess potions and lotions.... and create a bathroom cupboard that makes my heart sing when I open it!!

I seem to have masses of lipsticks and other beauty products - alongside keeping those I use most regularly in a make up bag, I'd like to make it easier to sort and store the rest so that I easily know what I have.

What do you do? What works? Especially for lipsticks etc...

Pictures would be fab!!!

I probably wouldn't recommend what I have but I use 2 Malm beside drawers. The one with 3 drawers. I have all my make-up divided into clear makeup bags. It's actually a pain in the butt trying to get things in and out but those wee drawer dividers/trays wouldn't work as I have too much.

I have a metal container with sections in them. One I use for eyeshadows, two for lipsticks and one for eyeliner pencils. Party lipsticks I don’t use everyday I have in a little plastic tub in a drawer. Also duplicates I have in a drawer. I plan not to buy any either, and am surprised (and embaressed) how long my stash is taking to get through.

I have 3 Muji drawers and beautiful empty candle ceramic holder for brushes, all together inside wardrobe on the shelf, under short hanging garments.

I have similar to below (not nearly as neat!) which works for me. All my makeup fits in the drawer, and any little sample perfumes or foil pouches of sample slip in behind. Face cream and serums go in the mirror cabinet.

Such great ideas - thank you - and really appreciate the photo!! Looks really great. Wonder what they might do for fairly shallow but quite capacious bathroom cupboard...

I have sooooo much make up. I felt my problem was I never got anything finished and I have had some bits for many years.

i put the majority of it away in the million and one sponge bags I had and have out a small selection on my dressing table in a clear acrylic stacking thing. Once a month ish I rotate it around.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 12/01/2024 22:42

Sorry, I meant - I rotate the make up round, that way I actually use stuff up and I only need a relatively small container on the dressing table.

Nitgel · 12/01/2024 22:45

Muji drawers and stackable boxes too

Blacknailer · 12/01/2024 23:37

Various bowls and boxes in a chest of drawers and the everyday stuff in a prettier wooden bowl on top.

loveyouradvice · 13/01/2024 00:09

Oooh like the look of that @SiobhanSharpe - Im going to be measuring my shelves first thing to see if it fits!!

And agree @Blacknailer about having everyday stuff in something prettier increasing the pleasure of using it... going to look for beautiful things!

And yes, think I need to take a look at Muji @Nitgel and @ReadyForSeason

Huge thanks all for responding, especially with links or photos

I have two of those cardboard WHSmiths mini drawer things stacked on top of each other for all the make up and supplements that I don’t use. And the three or four things I actually do use are just out on the shelf in the bathroom. But the drawers are good, nice size and number of compartments.

Ambi · 13/01/2024 00:18

Makeup in trays in big drawer on my dressing table (Malm). Along with hairbrush, bobbles, contact lenses.
Hairdryer, stylers and hair products live in a basket next to my dressing table.
Morning and evening skincare in the bathroom cupboard.
Perfumes and deodorant on tray in wardrobe.
All other stuff; beauty hoard to be used up/ spa night treatments live under my ottoman bed.
I like stuff but hate displayed stuff, I'm all for clear surfaces.

Hilwee · 13/01/2024 09:54

Ooh thanks op I need this. Looking for neat ways to store my bits.

loveyouradvice · 13/01/2024 11:10

@Ambi I love clear surfaces but seldom achieve them - one of my New Year ambitions is to declutter and have more of this!!

@Hilwee Isn't it great? So many good ideas on here

Resurrecting the thread after finding it under the how to store your spices.

Ive got mine in a cutlery tray I’m bedroom drawer but need a better place I think as I have in use make up all over the place.

I have started a use now tub and that’s in the bathroom in a basket so it’s easy to grab.

I do like clear surfaces but once stuff is in a drawer it doesn’t exist in my mind anymore! I have to see it.

BusterGonad · 25/04/2024 14:58

Beauty products shouldn't be kept in the bathroom, the humidity encourages mould and your make up will go off quickly.
