I'll be honest. I have zero style.

My go to is a slightly oversized hoodie and jeans, with trainers.

Doesn't help thank I am a bit of a chonk at the moment and want to hide myself away from the world, although I do carry the weight semi well.

My best friend is getting married this year, and I will be needed for dress shopping, trying dresses on, the hen do, evenings out etc.

I want to up my game - she is ridiculously stylish and looks good no matter what. Not looking to steal the limelight, but i dont want the "fat ugly friend" label.

I need some sort of guidance on things i can wear, if people are up for it!
I love blazers and jeans, but am conscious of my legs at the mo, and baggier jeans dont look great with a blazer (to me).

What can I wear leggings with?
Or am i best to steer clear?

Literally open to any and all options - this was all sparked off by realising i have nothing to pair with the leggings that also covers my butt 😂

I’m not a fan of leggings tbh, I don’t think they look particularly good on anyone.
Do you shop in places that sell for women with curves? You say chonk but don’t say what size.
This site has some lovely outfits. Loads of dresses, tops, blazers, jumpers -anything really.
Are there any trouser shapes here you like? They start from size 10, so not all for the generously proportioned, but they do style clothes on curvier women so you can see what things actually look like.

@YouAttentionSeekingTrippleARatedFuckwit thanks for the reply! I'm not a huge fan of leggings on people either, unless they're used more as thick tights 😂

I'm not entirely sure what size I am these days, around an 18/20 depending on the shop I think. (5'8", 17.8st ish). Work trousers i wear a 42" waist but could wear a 40" - paranoid about the trousers splitting- and a 31 leg.

I have had a look on Yours before... I just absolutely suck at knowing what looks good together/how to pair clothing/get very repetitive thoughts over and over of "youre gonna look like an idiot" etc.

Will have to scour the website over the weekend i think, see what catches my eye 🤔

Tbh at a size 18/20 how stylish you look is going to depend considerably on how much you’re prepared to spend.

You need really good fabrics and cutting to provide structure. Not leggings! You can obviously buy pre-owned, but you should definitely be looking for the best quality brands you can find.

The rest is down to exquisite grooming - which you can build up slowly.

I'm another in the bin the leggings camp!

What style clothes do you like? Anyone whose style you admire? What shape figure are you?

If you are an hourglass style, then Mollie Campsie on Instagram is great to follow, she wears a size 18.

ZombiePara · 13/01/2024 14:07

@TheOriginalFrench what would be a good example of brands to look at?

@anon2022anon okay okay - i get it, no leggings 😅 as for style wise, no idea really. I've never really followed fashion/styles, have no idea on what i like. Priority for me recently has been comfort... i work in a uniform, so no thought, and then it's normally pyjamas once i'm home, and jeans/hoodies at a weekend.

I like the idea of wearing blazers, and certainly used to occasionally when i worked in an office - coloured vest top, jeans and a black blazer.

Shape wise i guess i'm a bit of a rectangle at the moment.

Just need a complete overhaul really!

Hold on to the leggings but wear with minidresses or tunics, drop the trainers for boots. Just don't do it with a skater dress if you don't want to channel elvishness.

I was about your size and wore a lot of maxi skirts with tighter tops.
