SoTiredNeedHoliday · 10/01/2024 17:31

Simply that, what are the current trends?
I know we don't need them but there are certainly A LOT of women out there in the 50's looking like they have just turned 40 - & I am not one of them 🙄

@NahHumBrag Your routine sounds interesting. What facial do you get? where do you go for both if you don't mind me asking?

Skin boosters are AMAZING. I stare in the mirror for about 3 days straight after getting them done. They are made up of hyaluronic acid, amino acids and peptides so they just make your skin look plump and glowy.

I love it too. I think lots of people have too high expectations but if you keep at it, it genuinely helps your skin produce more elastin and collagen.

Most people have it once, can’t see a difference and give up. Which is fair enough as it’s ££.

I just wish it was cheaper. It’s £350 a pop round here which I struggle to justify. I think I’ve found somewhere that does it for £250

It’s also practitioner dependent- they need to inject at the right depth or it doesn’t work. I think that’s why it gets bad press.

@Delatron @NahHumBrag That is interesting that its 'overtime' that you see the benefits. I like the sounds of this to be honest.

@Delatron where do you go?

As you say it practitioner practitioner-dependent - recommendations are always a good start.

What about Belo Revive? Or Aquagold?

@Pusheen467 does one skin booster do the whole face like Profilo?

Pusheen467 · 11/01/2024 09:28

I used to find this a bit bizarre but I actually think tweakments are most successful when you are younger, both in terms of damage limitation before it occurs and the fact that it's imo impossible to fake youth past a certain age

I agree with this. I'm in my early 30s and have had some very subtle work done. I don't think people can tell (my dentist does treatments and was very surprised when I listed everything I'd had done) but I'm aware that once I get past a certain age it won't have the same effect and the work will start to look more obvious as I need larger amounts. I have had subtle botox and a small amount of cheek and eye filler but I mainly focus on regular skin boosters to make my skin look healthy and glowy like it did when I was younger.

Marie2023 · 11/01/2024 09:28

Natural but effective cosmeceuticals like L22. Restores the lipid profile of your skin to someone much younger.

There's different types like Profhilo or Jalupro which you can have all have your face or ones specific to your eyes like Lumi Eyes or Bio Eyes. I have the non-brand skin boosters every couple of months from my local beautician as they're only £50 but I actually prefer them to the branded ones (I get them all over my face). I know beauticians get a bad rape on MN but the one I go to is amazing.

Possiblynotever · 11/01/2024 09:32

I have a client who is a big name and entrepreneur in aesthetic medicine. She produces injectable peptides ( and I think other "natural" stuff) for a " glowing " skin. It is not a medical treatment. She does look her age, but her skin is glorious. I would never try them as I am scared of needles...

NahHumBrag · 11/01/2024 11:10

@SoTiredNeedHoliday I visit a facialist who creates a bespoke facial for you depending on how your skin is on the day / has been and she’s not tied to any product or range. As a result, my routine is made up of a variety of products from companies such as Omorovicza, Decleor, Skinsceutical etc.

She also does my skin booster. It’s the only injectable she’ll do.

YouAttentionSeekingTrippleARatedFuckwit · 11/01/2024 11:13

If I had £££’s to spend I would have either:

CO2 laser
Morpheus 8

Delatron · 11/01/2024 11:17

@SoTiredNeedHoliday I’m in Bucks but you tend to head in to London. So if you want London recommendations I can do those. But you do pay more in London so if you can find someone local to you that will probably be more cost effective.

I’m about to try out a local place where it’s £250 a pop which is more doable.

Delatron · 11/01/2024 11:18

I tend to head in to London that is supposed to say.

candlelog · 11/01/2024 11:30

I have Botox every 9 months in 3 areas. I have monthly facial treatments on rotation, chemical peel, micro needling, hydra facial, profhilo. I also have a good daily skincare routine with retinol and serums.

ArcticBells · 11/01/2024 17:33

I think the secret is to keep it subtle so as to look really well rather than aiming for younger. Carol Vorderman looks fantastic but a completely different person

itsnothingoriginal · 11/01/2024 19:17

I'm late 40s and planning to try Botox which I never thought I'd consider but I'm feeling incredibly down about my face and neck drooping. I already have a good skincare regime and really don't want anything obvious...just a slight lift.

Those who do have subtle Botox/fillers what do you ask for?

Pusheen467 · 11/01/2024 19:26

@itsnothingoriginal You can ask for baby botox and as for cheek filler I had 0.5ml in each cheek which I think is subtle. I also had 0.5ml in each lip but I pretty much had no lips so they're still thin by most people's standards. I had them done last April and they're still there. Skin boosters are also amazing for glowy skin.

Dontsayyouloveme · 11/01/2024 19:40

I’ve had fillers, Botox, skin tightening! Out of all of them I’m only keeping up with Botox, for crows feet and light touch to help 11’s lines and it makes such a difference. Filler wise.. id only go for some cheek and jaw fillers, purely to help the jowl sag.. again, makes a great difference! I did splash out on upper blepharoplasty and it’s the best thing I ever did!

itsnothingoriginal · 11/01/2024 20:40

Thanks so much for the advice above - so helpful 🙏

mrsmingleton · 11/01/2024 20:50

What do glittery wedge trainers say?

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 12/01/2024 07:31

@Delatron places in London would be ideal

cathyandclaire · 12/01/2024 07:47

Like the sound of the skin boosters- would love any recommendations in London or Yorkshire.

I'm feeling droopy and have stayed away from injectables after some bad demonic looking Botox I was toying with fillers to lift everything but may just save up for a facelift instead.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 12/01/2024 07:48

@candlelog what serums etc do you like? I'm using Medik8 crystal retinal at the moment (10) and their evening cream. I also tried their C-tetra which felt lovely going on, before that I was using avene

@SoTiredNeedHoliday I had some good profhilo at Dr Sophie Shotters clinic on Harley street. She does the Botox and there a very good nurse practitioner called Verity who does skin boosters and Sofwave. They also gave me numbing cream which my local place didn’t (I do find profhilo stingy.

But don’t expect dramatic results. It’s very subtle and I do think you need to keep having it regularly as the results build.
