Trench Coat

I'm looking for a nice trench coat that will last. I think preferably beige, all my other coats are black or navy.

I'm only 5 ft 3 and a half and I'm a size 12. I usually like things that emphasize my waist but I am a little bigger on top.

Brownie points if it is from a high street shop/department store as I really want to try on first. (I'm going shopping later this week to a city with most major brands.

I'm happy with a budget option if it is good quality and well fitting but also happier to go more expensive to get something right. (I kept my last coat for well over 10 years & it was only from Trespass in the sale.)

Have you tried Hobbs? They always have a trench or two.

Comefromaway · 11/01/2024 01:31

I havnt tried anywhere yet. I live in a city with a m & S a Primark, sports shops and pound shops and nothing else!

M&S and Primark might get them for spring. As might the supermarket clothing ranges.

DavinaTheDonkey · 11/01/2024 06:55

Was coming on to say Hobbs or M&S. M&S would be more budget friendly

Britpopbaby · 11/01/2024 07:32

Try Mango.

Britpopbaby · 11/01/2024 07:35

Just to say that if you want it to last then maybe avoid Primark as the ones that I saw that were more for fashion imo and a bit flimsy. I have a Mango one that is 100%cotton bought in the sale and a polyester one from M&S also bought in the sales. I think the quality of the Mango one is much better.

Also try charity shops. Trench coats don't tend to be worn for messy activities so tend to last for years.
Mine is H&M from 2000 and still going strong every spring and autumn.

StasisMom · 11/01/2024 07:52

Yep H&M is a good shout, they do decent ones.

Comefromaway · 11/01/2024 09:54

I am definitely not buying one from Primark. I buy a lot of supermarket (Tu) clothes but I never buy from Primark, I like good quality clothes made to last.

H & M I don't personally get on with, their sizes don't seem to fit me quite right.

I do like Mango though. The nearest one to me is about 45 miles away but as I said, I'm off on a shopping trip tomorrow.

I've been told about Massimo Dutti but there isn't one in the city I am going to.

I've got a mango one and I love it.

lavenderphase · 11/01/2024 11:09

Sorry pressed send too quickly.
My mango trench is a really nice fabric and the lining is breathable.

I have a cheaper supermarket one which looks really nice but is noticeably sweatier and I'm sure that's the poorer quality lining.

Definitely try charity shops. I got myself a decent Debenhams mini trench for a fiver.

Rayna37 · 11/01/2024 12:56

I definitely recommend trying Hobbs. I have a four year old one from there still like new. Try in store and order online, often 10% off your first order.

Yes that does look nice.

I guess the thing will be to try them on to see which suit my figure best.

Hey! Sorry I know this thread is a year old now… just wondering if you did end up trying the Barbour trench? I’m tempted by one on Vinted but not sure whether to size up or if they run big anyway for a slightly oversized fit x

Comefromaway · 26/01/2025 21:21

The Barbour one was the wrong shade for my skin tone. I ended up buying a Ted Baker one as I liked the Hobbs one but the petite one was too short on me &. The long one came to an odd length on me.

I have a Barbour longline puffa type coat and it’s true to size.
