Micro-packing for 4 days

TragicMuse · 09/01/2024 23:41

I'm going away for 4 days to Budapest. Expecting it to be cold, possibly snowy.

We are flying with Ryanair and only have the teeny tiny bag, no extra booked.

So I need ideas of interchangeable wardrobe options that will fit into a small 20l day pack!

Everything needs to fit this bag inc toiletries...

Help!

All advice would be most gratefully received!

Thanks!

Buy a can of hairspray or something in duty free and get a duty free carrier and fill it . You are allowed this .
You are NOT allowed an handbag too.. must fit in your carry on bag..
I'd now add a 10kg bag to check in between you to be honest.

@Bashfulclam

Solid toiletries are the same as liquid.. you cannot take them extra through security unless in your security airport plastic bag and no more than 100ml. I got my michum Solid Deodorant taken off me .

@peasandbeans.
They now check pillows etc.
Only way is a duty free bag.

Is Ryan air different to easyJet then? I always have a handbag and an actual bag on the plane for easyJet but haven't flow Ryan air in a long time. But it's a handbag, not a backpack or whatever.

Ryanair is tight as fuck on bag size and number of @JadziaD

My last ryanair flight I had my old school bag as a carry on. You'd fit loads in it and so long as it's not too full it'll be fine. It's the bag I brought to S.E. Asia for a 5 week trip (much warmer weather!!)

You really don't need much. Think about what you wear is it trousers or skirts? Trousers, wear 1 pair, take a spare.
Skirts wear 1, pack a spare and 4 tights
A top per day.
A spare jumper
Underwear for each day.
Minimal make up/ moisturisers etc

Buy a 2 in 1 shampoo and deodorant at the airport
Wear your coat/ hat/ scarf on the flight and your jumper

Wow, I didn't know you could get worse than easyJet! Grin. Both DD and I had "handbags" and then our official "one carry on bag" when we flew. Although on the way back the flight was packed so they forced us and a bunch of other passengers to put our "carry on" bag in the hold. I didn't actually take note if everyone else also had a small handbag but I assume so as no one would let their passports/wallets/phones etc go off to the hold so it must have been pretty much everyone travelling like us.

<makes note to avoid Ryanair>

Oh no wait, I just checked their website:

  • Priority & 2 Cabin Bags: This allows you to carry a small personal bag (40x20x25cm), which must fit under the seat in front of you and a 10kg bag (55x40x20cm) onboard, to be stored in the overhead locker. It also allows you to board the plane first using the Priority Boarding queue at the gate.

TO be clear, my handbag is big - hence I can fit a second smaller handbag inside, as well as chargers etc, but it's not MASSIVE. I usually travel with this handbag and then my small cabin bag: https://miatui.com/pages/jenni-travel-bag-bundle-buy-now

For four days you definitely do not need two pairs of trousers! Just take the pair you're wearing and have a change of t-shirts, knickers, and socks. Take extra socks if it might be wet (nothing more miserable than wet socks). Take extra knickers if you might be swimming (don't like putting on old pair after a swim and shower). Check weather reports carefully before flying and remember that anything essential to life will be available where you're going (but you may not wish to waste time shopping for basics on holiday).

The OP doesn't have this option . This lets you take a 10 kg carry on suitcase . She only has the small rucksack option .

TragicMuse · 10/01/2024 18:15

Yes, we haven't booked priority boarding or extra bag!

I went to Dublin for 3 days in late September with Ryanair, using only an under-seat backpack. I managed to fit (rolling all clothes as tight as possible):
1 jeans, 1 leggings (not used)
2 long sleeved tshirts, 2 short sleeved
1 light jumper
4x underwear and socks (I always take 1 extra set)
1 pyjamas, cashmere infinity scarf, gloves
ziplock bag of toiletries, travel toothbrush, travel hairbrush
iPad, phone and charger, purse/documents.

I travelled in trousers, hoodie, tshirt, trainers and waterproof puffer jacket. The hoodie and the puffer jacket were must-haves and not having a spare pair of shoes was the worst thing about travelling so light.

Might be worth tying any bulky cardies/jumpers around your waist when boarding. Also, take a carrier bag in your hand luggage to decant the extras worn when going through departures.
