Faux pa or inspired choice?

It depends on your office, I guess.

Could you wear jeans, or combat type trousers, or a pinafore dress?

KirstenBlest · 08/01/2024 18:46

I wouldn't and I love dungarees.

mynameiscalypso · 08/01/2024 18:56

Depends what they look like. A colleague has what are technically dungarees but are fitted and made of black material. She wears them over a smart shirt and looks great.

NewName24 · 08/01/2024 19:02

'i don't think they would be appropriate for many places, but obviously you know your office culture better than anyone here.

notacooldad · 08/01/2024 19:04

You know the flow in your office.
You could in mine but not in my sister's.

ThePoshUns · 08/01/2024 19:06

Are you on 'Playschool?'

Kalevala · 08/01/2024 19:08

Is the business agricultural?

SgtJuneAckland · 08/01/2024 19:09

I have a colleague who has space print dungarees, she looks great and obviously wouldn't wear them on a day she was due in court

Whataretheodds · 08/01/2024 19:09

I wouldn't.
My office is "dress for your day" and plenty of people wear jeans, trainers, shirts. I don't like being quite that casual. I could wear leggings but I don't. I wouldn't wear dungarees. I'm still in a professional environment and like to appear as such even if I'm casual.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 08/01/2024 19:11

I have some black twill wide leg ones that I wear to work, get lots of compliments

sonjadog · 08/01/2024 19:13

I sometimes wear mine on days when I am just sitting around the office. It depends on where you work.

PiggieWig · 08/01/2024 19:15

Depends on the dungs and depends on the office. PPs twill ones with a blouse sound lovely.
Lucy and Yak in a law firm might be pushing it.

Sometimesnot · 08/01/2024 19:17

Black/navy/ dark green cord or cotton with a printed shirt and boots/ brogues can definitely be a smartish look. Even Lucy and yak might work if you unpicked the label.

SquashPenguin · 08/01/2024 19:18

I wear my Yaks to work but it’s verrrrry laid back in my office. We can wear whatever we want as long as the directors from head office aren’t visiting.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I'm tempted on my casual days but it might give off the wrong vibe

That's the sort of vibe I was imagining

My daughters teacher wears Lucy and Yaks - the cotton ones, no denim or cord but she has many many pairs…

Lots of offices no but some yes!

persisted · 09/01/2024 20:49

I wouldn't on the basis that they make me look like an elderly teletubby.
YMMV.

adriftinadenofvipers · 09/01/2024 20:50

Nope!

BloodyAdultDC · 09/01/2024 21:53

I wear corduroy dungaree dresses to work (back office, education) but would not have dared when teaching.

I agree that they can look great - dressed up or down - but entirely depends on the vibe at work.

riotlady · 09/01/2024 21:56

My uni lecturer had many a pair of Lucy + Yaks

dudsville · 09/01/2024 21:59

I have some fabulous dungarees in "ecru" that i could wear to work but they'd be so noticeable. I'd like a darker pair for this purpose but it is hard to find the right pair.
