Schuh have very reasonably priced ones, around £35 in their sale.

My heels hurt looking at these, are the heels solid or do they bend as I'd like loafers that don't wreck my heels too

FitFlop loafers are the softest most comfortable ones I've tried www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/allegro-fringe-buckled-leather-loafers-p-HG4

OP, I also prefer loafers with soft backs, but it’s so hard to tell from on-line pictures whether they’re soft or not?

This is exactly my problem, but so many shoe shops have shut now due to online shopping it's difficult to look/try on before buying.
