10kg for a week!

51andFabulous · 07/01/2024 05:21

So, my bf has booked a week in a holiday destination which is 22-23 degrees in the day and 19 at night for 7 nights.

I have 10kg checked in luggage and a handbag!

I've done 3 nights with a Ryanair sized handbag before but am struggling with planning for this!

What should I take? I'm 53, don't mind wearing bikini swimwear, size 10-12 but don't like body con/tight clothing in the evening.

I do wear makeup every day and struggle to get my basics into hand luggage.

Please send me your 10kg packing lists!

Get a Hamman towel instead of an ordinary towel.

Asiatoyork · 07/01/2024 06:14

will you be doing active stuff (like hiking) at all, or mainly gentle sightseeing?

I just managed carry on for a 9 day trip with similar weather (including city and hikes, plus threat of rain) and I had to compromise on number of shoes, style to some degree (more athleisure wear than normal) and put products (not many) in smaller containers.

PurpleQualityStreetDress · 07/01/2024 06:18

Shoes and hairstylers will take up weight.
You got usual skin and hair care, then any extra for holiday like aftersun or mosquito repellant. 3 swimsuits, several evening outfits, scarf or pashmina, 2 pjs minimum, sightseeing day wear, hats, accessories, books, lube and sex toys 🤣
Chargers and laptop or tablet, pills and meds (hand luggage). If you will drink their tap water a water bottle. Might you need electric socket adaptors? Mini first aid kit or at least painkillers, disinfetant and plasters. Foot blister plasters! Socks underwear.... there will be neat lists of what to pack on Google images or pinterest.

Dont forget sunglasses!! In hand luggage too.

Cricketbelle · 07/01/2024 06:20

You can pre order your toiletries to be collected at Boots in the terminal so that won’t be counted.

wear most of your clothes for the flight?🤣🤣

PurpleQualityStreetDress · 07/01/2024 06:21

It will be helpful if there is laundry facility where you are. Mix and match outfits that can be dressed up or down.

Mmmmpavlova · 07/01/2024 06:28

This isn't helpful but I would add a checked in bag to the flight if it all possible... I'm sure lots of people are packing ninjas and would enjoy the challenge etc, but I find even with lots of organising that is just impossible to pack a week of day clothes, night clothes, swimwear, shoes, accessories, make up, toiletries, electronics etc, into hand luggage only.
Honestly the stress of doing so would be on me all week until we had gotten through airport check in. Which kind of defeats the purpose of getting a nice trip as a present!

ApolloandDaphne · 07/01/2024 06:36

Who you going with? I'm just back from a Tui holiday and from what I saw the cabin bags were neither measured or weighed. Lots of people seemed to have quite big cabin bags and there was plenty room for them as well because most people had hold bags.

The things which made my 20kg bag heavy were toiletries/make up, books, several cardigans which were never worn (take just one and wear it to go) and a light jacket I never wore. I would have struggled to get it down to 10kg though.

SnowsFalling · 07/01/2024 07:10

7 nights?
7 pairs of pants
Pair of shorts
Couple of pairs of socks
Pair of trousers that will do day and night.
2x Skirt or dress that will do day and night.
10 tops that will go with the above.
1 light jumper/cardi or shawl
2 swimming costumes
One pair of sandals, and one pair of beach/pool shoes.
Microfiber towel if not provided at destination.

Wear: heaviest trousers (trainers?), jumper, jacket.

Toiletries, make up, sunscreen. Mini first aid kit.

Hand lugage:
Read on a kindle (no books)
Chargers, phone.

Choose a colour theme and mix and match, pack around it so that all clothing in your bag loosely goes together. So for example, black white gold green or blues from navy to white. Metallic footwear/ cross body bag/ complimentary jewellery. Take things you can wear in different ways eg a kimono for the pool, or the evening, or for going out shopping. A pashmina type scarf for the plane, for the evenings, even to sit on at the beach. Hairstyler, chargers, kindle or ipad, headphones, mini toiletries and makeup products (you don't need much for a week), those mini perfume atomisers are great.

DelphiniumBlue · 07/01/2024 09:31

So the weather at your destination is not that hot, is it a city destination? Will there even be swimming opportunities? If there are, you'll need 2 x swimwear, flip flops ( nice ones that you can use for walking ) and a lightweight towel, or you could even buy a cheap one when you get there.
You can wear trainers, a denim jacket or hoodie and big but lightweight scarf/pashmina on the plane, plus jeans/ trousers or midi/ maxi dress *with leggings underneath . Wear whatever jewellery you want to take, and whittle down makeup options, you don't need to take a big choice with you, just one each of whatever you use.Find out if a hairdryer will be available so you don't have to carry one.
You can buy sun protection when you arrive, or at the airport.

  • I d wear a flowy printed dress that you can wear for day or evening , and take a plain tube type one that you could put something over if necessary. Then a shorter dress as well if that's something you'd usually wear. I'd take an oversized shirt to use as a coverup, and a light jumper or cardigan. Find out if there will be a need for dressier clothing or activewear.
learieonthewildmoor · 07/01/2024 15:31

Look up 54321 packing. 5 tops, 4 bottoms, 3 dresses and pairs of shoes. Means you plan to wash your clothes at some point but very helpful for organising what to take. Should all go in carry on, apparently.

cherrypickles · 07/01/2024 16:12

Depends where you are going and what you doing. Is it a beach/ winter sun type canaries holiday?

51andFabulous · 07/01/2024 17:03

Thanks all! It is checked in luggage so I can put cosmetics etc in the bag. @SnowsFalling that was a great list and I will use it as a base!

It is an AI hol in Egypt, I appreciate 23 degrees is equivalent to a nice summers day in the UK but I just want to get out of the rain 😂.

Just looked at the 54321 method; interestingly I do quite a lot of this already, packing cubes etc. I might take more than one bikini, though! Could shove a couple in my coat pockets 😂

PurpleQualityStreetDress · 07/01/2024 06:18

Dont forget sunglasses!! In hand luggage too.

Sunglasses on your head or a cord around your neck.

cherrypickles · 07/01/2024 21:02

Egypt is very much a relaxing beach type holiday with days by the pool and exploring the coral reefs

I would take

Travel outfit (jogger, t shirt jumper coat backpack and trainers)

Cabin bag
2 x shoes flip flops and sandals
2 bikini and cover up
2 summer trousers or skirt or short
2 dresses
5 tops
Bags for evening
7 pairs of pants and one bra!

Make up and stuff is the hardest

I wont ever seem much but I went to Mallorca for a week and wore the same thing over and over!

NoNotMyHair · 07/01/2024 21:05

10 kgs - I couldn't do it. My normal hand luggage weighs more than that.

cherrypickles · 07/01/2024 21:05

It will be easier you can check it in and don't have the faff of liquid limits!

Check carry on allowance too as that can be 10kg in a backpack. I always take a bikini/ flip flops/ pants and a versatile dress in my carry on!
