Please help me find shorts suitable for my pasty hippo thighs (yes, in February)!

I have large, pale, blotchy, wobbly, cellulite-ridden thighs.
I am going on holiday to a tropical climate in 4 weeks and I would like some ‘wide leg’ shorts that come 3/4 of the way to the knee (but not fully knee length).
I will be doing quite a lot of ‘outdoorsy’ activities (otherwise I would be living in maxi dresses and would not countenance shorts!) so cotton or other breathable / sweat-friendly fabric preferred.
I am quite tall 5”8 and an M&S Size 14.

Any recommendations where to look?

Have a look on La Redoute. They have a shorts sale on at the moment - might just have what you're looking for.

Why not wear 3/4 sports leggings in moisture wicking fabric? Some come plain and not very sporty looking.

I find linen chaffe inner thighs if you walk a lot in heat the fabric is just too rough on inner thighs so choose bamboo and viscose and similar types of 'cooler' supersoft fabrics. Cotton will just give you damp thighs and crotch. Its not good in heat.
Obviously no polyester! Don't forget talcum powder!

So I have been mocked on here for suggesting these in the past, but I have legs like you describe and these are the most comfortable and flattering shorts I’ve ever owned. I size up for a loser more culotte like fit. I have two pairs!

I have shorts similar to the hotshot harem shorts linked above and can attest to their flattering style and comfort

I live in a tropical country - I've tried many many variants of shorts. I never have found that holy grail. Its always a balance between practicality and style.

If its proper full on hiking or exercise Decathalon do anti-chafing shorts or Uniqlo do Airism biker shorts which I wear with a huge tee shirt. In fact for the tropics pretty much the entire Airism range is your answer.

I agree with @flipflopfly - I grew up in a tropical country and just got back from another one, and most people, unless they've got v slim legs will have loose shorts gobbled up by their thighs. I find a sport dress and bike short/chub rub short combo, or bike shorts plus big t-shirt is by far the best if you're being very active outside in a very hot place with high humidity.

I like the look of those harem shorts but again, my thighs would be rubbed raw by them in the heat unless I've got chub rub shorts on underneath.

Sweaty Betty summer dresses, jumpsuits and playsuit are all lightweight and great for summer walks. I prefer the jumpsuits if walking near any vegetation or insects! They have a lot on sale at the moment

I’d go for proper hiking/trekking shorts. They tend to be a flattering tailored style, don’t let your thighs rub, and have moisture wicking properties. Look at Craghoppers, Regatta, North Face, Mountain Warehouse, Decathlon etc.
