How oversized is too much?!

Bought a new jumper dress designed to be oversized in the sale. I am a 10-12. They only had large left but I went with it. I’ve got it home and it fits but it looks baggy and a few sizes too big.

How do you tell if something is too big and looks silly?

It needs to fit somewhere, at some part of your body like shoulders or else it looks a mess. My oversized tweed coat fits me perfectly across the shoulders and down to the wrist and looks proportional there. Therefore you can see it’s oversized and that I’m not wearing my dads coat 😂

Does it fit on your shoulders - are the shoulder seams in the right place?

Thank you. Looks like this. Emoji to protect anonymity a bit as there’s something specific about my hands that people who know me would recognise. Seems to sit on my shoulders well and arms… but is just super baggy elsewhere, lots of material in the body

Yeah. Picture below. Everywhere else it’s baggy though!

I agree with the advice here. And it depends how you feel when wearing it, if you think it’s too baggy and shapeless, you won’t feel good and then it’s been a waste of money.

It looks nice and warm and snuggly, not really like a dress. Sorry. I personally would keep it for lounging around in but I appreciate that might not be what you wanted it for!

That would be too oversized for me, personally. I think it's partly the design - if the sleeves were less wide, one could get away with a loose fit elsewhere because it would have a little more shape. It looks nice and comfy, but definitely has more of a lounge wear vibe.
