What kind of coat do I wear with dresses?

I've taken my eye off the ball and neglected my appearance a bit in recent years, but I'm looking to get me back again. I used to wear dresses all of the time, just casual day dresses with a cropped jumper/cardi, black tights and docs. Since then though I've started to work from home/became self employed and have acquired 2 dogs that require masses of walking. I need a coat that I can wear with the above type of outfit and that is practical for dog walks. When I try and look on Instagram or Pinterest it all seems like car to shopping centre type outfits but I need something that will keep me warm and some way dry. Can anyone help? I really want to start feeling better about myself, I'm only 37 and I'm too young to be feeling so old and clueless 😭

I don't know how stylish you're hoping to be but I think with dog walks I'd go practicality first and style second.
You need a long coat. I have a lands end squall one. It can go in the washing machine, keeps me warm and dry, and is over the knee like the one posted above. It also has nice big pockets.
