Do wear gorgeous socks?

I had a moment earlier today.

I put my feet up on the sofa and saw - actually saw - my socks. Apparently I am the sort of person who wears bobbly, toxic blue, ribbed, nylon ankle socks. I'm not even sure they aren't kids cast-offs.

I don't want to be a bobbly, toxic blue, ribbed, nylon ankle socks sort of person.

Is socks one of those things that fancy people wear gorgeous ones? Like, everyone knows that XXX are the best ones?

Recommend gorgeous socks. 2024 is the year I up my socks game.

I’ve not tried them for myself, but I succumbed to their marketing last Christmas and bought a pack each for my sons and their girlfriends. They have all raved about them and how warm and comfortable they are. Good for wearing in a cold flat and then also inside your Docs when you venture out apparently!

I love nice socks in general and always keep an eye out for designs I like everywhere. Just found a lovely sparkly pair at White Stuff recently. I also have some from BAM and they are super soft but very slippery on my wooden floors at home.

Gentle Grip socks are great for this.

I love BAM's sports socks and Nordic sock company's fairisle knitted ones. But I'm not ashamed to love Primark's fluffy bedsocks too which I wear around the house.

Seasalt or Thortful

Came on here to read the recommendations as I bought a multipack of socks from M&S recently and after shedding bits all over my carpet and being washed a few times, they look terrible. Lost loads of dye too. Rubbish.

I've just returned Nordic socks. They were horrible. Cheap and nasty fabric both the cotton and wool ones and insanely thick. Also returning them was a pain in the ass.

I was given some from them for Christmas last year that were much nicer cotton so I wonder their manufacturing has changed.

I usually get sock bargains in TK Maxx - pringle etc. Seasalt socks are nice but don't wear well IME. I like smartwool merino ones but they are £££. However, in frustration with the Nordic sock debacle I just bought a few pairs in the sale!

Handknitted are nice but can also be quite thick. If that's not an issue and you personally aren't going to knit yourselves some socks quickly then woolly wyvern is a good compromise. They are hand made on Shetland on a vintage sock machine and nice quality. I've got a couple of pairs and have gifted quite a few pairs. Get the ones with nylon (super wash ones) if you want them to last.

Hmm... it seems that the replies are split between jolly designs and UK specific companies. I want grown-up socks. No amusing designs. So I think Thought and Sock Shop etc are not what I need. Although they do some stripes and stuff. Are stripes classy?

I do like the Scandi socks but like pp can't decide if they're really lovely or just another fake Insta ad.

If you want lovely socks for relaxing at home in, can I recommend these wool socks from Amazon. I've been so pleased with them. I wash them in a wool wash and they've also survived accidentally going in with the rest of the loads and the tumble dryer.

Sostrene Greene do some lovely individual socks, and not insanely expensive. Day to day I wear Elle socks, which I get off Amazon or at TK Maxx, because they're nice and long, with soft cuffs, and I buy all the same colour so I don't have to match them up.

These are my current fave pairs of socks! Both in the sale now. I also love bamboo socks and may now go and browse for more socks!

I love Nordic socks and also the really thick bridgedale hiking socks. I have found wearing good socks to be very joyful and could never go back to my cheapo h&m multi pack ones now.
