Designer handbag repair

I’ve got a Gucci disco bag (bought for £800 about 4 years ago from Selfridges) with a torn zip- I approached “The Handbag Clinic” online and have had a quote for £345 with a timescale of 8-10 weeks to replace the zip.

I have now got myself back up off the floor and wondering whether there are alternative places to consider to do this repair? Or is this the price of having an expensive handbag??

There's an excellent dry cleaner near me which specialises in leather repairs and it's where I would go - perhaps contact some places local to you?

We have an excellent shoe repairer who would do this. It wouldn’t be cheap but it wouldn’t cost £300

You could try The Seam

I think Gucci has a repair service, though would probably be expensive

Take it to Gucci? It's a shame the zip hasn't held up well. That's a scandalous price from the handbag clinic.

Thanks all - I spoke to Gucci and I’m going to take it into a store to see what they say - it’s got to be worth the price of a train ticket, can’t be worse than I’ve already been quoted!

I think The Handbag Clinic is incredibly expensive. I have a very minor chip on the corner my one of my bags and they quoted much the same price to make good. I didn't pay that much for the bag so have left it.

Hi,

just found this thread. I have a Gucci soho disco that won't zip ... looks as if the teeth are misalaigned and when I took to my local cobbler he thought a new zip would be needed 😔

how did you get on with Gucci? Did they repair and if so what was the price and how long did it take?

thanks x

I’ve used this company to make me a new strap for a Mulberry bag. They were very reasonable, and it looks fantasticLink
